How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4299744 / 8206230A Carbon Range Hood Microwave Filter 5" X 5-3/8" X 3/8"

After looking online and finding reports that the bulbs at big box stores wouldn't work, I found this site. I read the reviews and decided to replace both lights and filters. Parts arrived and are working great as I expected. I'll keep your website handy for all future home repairs. 

Replaced filter 

Vent had corroded at the screws from years of use. Found the original part here. Ordered a black one since it was half the cost of the silver one. Also ordered new filters. Price was somewhat comparable to other sites or better but charges shipping. All parts did come at once the next day! Lucky me I guess we are near a warehouse. Parts fit fine and now the microwave looks good again. 

We purchased a replacement door. It came within a week of ordering and took less than 10 minutes to switch them. 

Replaced it. 

This was super easy! The dirty filters are just remove and replace items. The microwave essentially tells you when the filters should be replaced. The grease filter however, requires the removal of the Grill-Vent for access. There are two screws holding the vent in place and I had noticed when cleaning the area one day that whoever installed the vent on initial installation overtightened the screws and cracked the vent mounting holes. As a result the vent was a little shaky. I decided, since I had to remove the cracked vent to replace the grease filter, to also get a new vent. So - two screws and a little Windex to clean the area up and the filters and vent were replaced. Total time was about 20 minutes. It would have been 15 minutes if I remembered where the step-stool was... 

Easy fix, just removed the screws that remained, installed the new unit and reapplied the screws. Didn't take 5 minutes. The issue is why Jenn-Aire makes a product so shoddy that it required me to replace this part TWO TIMES. The first time was still under warranty. Also an issue was trying to interpret the model number suffix for color.

Easy to replace 

This was a very easy repair, simply removing screws. You do need a Torx bit to remove the magnetron. It is easier with two people getting the microwave removed and put back up.
