How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6021458 / WPW10442138 Washing Machine Control Board

No help from Whirlpool, they don't want to take the work away from their trained technicians ! ! f1e1 code is a general code for "check sum" or basically "lack of communication" There are 3 electronic control modules on my model Duet washer, I went with the stand alone unit mounted on the top LH side of the washer (take the top off). There is a secret tab on the inside rear of the unit that has to be released with a small screwdriver, then the unit slides to the rear to disengage from the top rail, then it is just a matter of unplugging all the wire bundles one at a time to transfer to the new unit and route everything as it once was. I plugged the washer back in just to make sure everything was communicating, which it was, unplugged it again and buttoned it all back together and ooofed it back into place, a final plug in and I was ready to do 4 batches of clothes. 

I replaced the MCU 

Ordered part. Son installed 

Watched the dismantle video. Checked all connections. Shared symptoms with Tech Support gal. Ordered new control board. Photoed connections and removed old board. Carefully reconnected new board. Powered up and washed three days clothes. Returned old board for Core refund. 

I removed the old board and installed the new one.
