How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4008534 / 12001541 Dryer Drum Support Roller

Took off the front of the dryer to expose the drum perimeter and saw a piece of cork that had broken loose. I then decided to remove the drum completely and discovered the felt seal needed replacing as well. I also replaced the plastic bearings and cork. The fan or squirrel cage had also become loose on the motor shaft and that was replaced as well. this is mostly a normal replacement, since it is 20 years old I can't complain. 

Removed the drum and removed the roller and axle and replaced. There was a small snap ring which would have been easier if I had small enough snap ring pliers. I managed to get it off and on with a standard screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. works like new. Glad I purchased the dryer drum roller axle as it was worn out and would have had to order it and wait for it to be delivered. I suggest getting both!

I ordered 2- drum support roller wheels and installed them without too much of a problem after viewing the proceedure on You Tube video. While I had the dryer taken apart I cleaned the inside of lint & dirt and also replaced the drum drive belt because it was looking frayed and cracked from old age. 

Replaced Drum support rollers, Tumbler bearings, Idler pulley wheel, and Idler arm. Found out that the blower wheel was bad and the main source of the noise issue once the dryer was torn down. So, had to order and replace the blower wheel too. But now all quiet when running. Probably quieter than when it was new. 

My dryer made a loud, squeaking noise every time it was used. I purchased both of the drum support rollers and the idler pulley wheel. The sent idler pulley wheel was the wrong one for my Maytag dryer (a refund was given). After replacing both of the drum support rollers (I added some thick bearing grease to the inside of each roller before replacing), now my Maytag dryer works great and is running quietly. The cost of the items and me fixing the dryer myself was less than $50.00. Well worth the time and effort! If I, being a 59-year-old female can fix my own dryer, most anyone can do the same. I used the video showing how to do the DIY repair, it was spot on! I gave a #3 for how challenging to repair the appliance yourself because it was the first time I have ever tried to complete a repair like this myself. Otherwise, a person who has done a similar repair before, it would have been a 1 or 2 at best. The job was intimidating to me at first, but being on my own now and watching every penny, I overcome the fear and dug in and got the job done! I feel very proud of myself for not allowing the fear I had, to keep me from at least trying to do the repair myself. I was shocked at how simply put together my dryer was. I am more confident in my abilities now than ever before! 

I noticed my dryer gradually started making noise as time went in. After seeing your videos I decided to take the project on rather than. Very easy fix. Replaced the gliders, support rollers and drum band. Cleaned out the dust and it works great. My washer was acting up at the time. Not so lucky on that one. Thank you appliance parts pros. 

Replaced drum support rollers, drum roller axles, drum belt, and belt tension pulley. Used the AppliancePartsPros.com repair videos that made the job very easy. The videos were exceptional. 

Cleaning, new belt, rollers and glides seems to have done the trick. The videos were very helpful. The website is very nice and very easy to use. It was nice to be able to use PayPal. Thank You! 

I wasn't sure what was making the noise in my dryer so ordered a set of Drum Support Rollers along with a Belt Tension Pulley as suggested by Appliance Parts Pros. I decided to also replace the Dryer Drum Belt since the machine is older and it was going to be apart anyway. I watched the videos for each piece to familiarize myself on what needed to be done and then set out to tackle the job. The videos were fabulous! Every step--from unplugging the dryer to reinserting the last screw was included along with detailed close-up shots of the areas being worked on. I set my laptop up next to the dryer and played the video while working on the project and was able to stop it to complete the step I was working on and then restart it. The squeak is gone and the project took a total of 1.5 rewarding (and truly enjoyable) hours.
