How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008708 / WP354987 Dryer Idler Shaft Retaining Ring

Initially I replaced the two drum support rollers, roller axels, and associated washers. This did not fix the issue. Next, I ordered and installed the belt tensioner pully, arm, and associated washers and clips. This fixed this issue. 

By watching some videos I determined that the most likely causes were bad drum support rollers. To be sure, I planned to order two drum support rollers and an idler pulley wheel. Using the exploded parts diagram on this website I easily determined the parts I needed, and I ordered extra hardware--such as support rollers, clips, and washers in case something else was worn or damaged during my repair attempt. I removed a rear access panel and replaced the idler pulley wheel. I then removed the from cover and drum and in a few minutes replaced the drum support rollers. I took photos at each step before removing screws, after removing screws to remember how parts were oriented. The entire job going slowly and carefully, taking pictures and vacuuming lint from inside the cabinet took just under two hours and that included a break to eat dinner! 

Watched video on U Tube and then did the repair. Several things were different, the video said to take off the door, however when the screws were removed , the piece the kept the screws in place dropped into the machine. When the front was removed I was able to get the door back on. I replaced the rollers and vacuumed the dryer and cleaned as good as possible, I replaced the rollers, the tension roller for the belt and the friction pad, I didn't realize that 2 friction pads were required but the remaining pad was in decent shape. When ordering parts, it would help if it mentioned how many of each part were required. 

Removed the old roller and put on the new one. Easy fix. 

We replaced the belt tension pulley and associated hardware and replaced the dryer drum belt as it looked frayed when we took the dryer apart. Our dryer is 22 years old and with the new parts, it is now working normal again. So glad we didn't have to invest in a new dryer. This repair saved us a lot of money, well worth the time!

I watched and rewatched the videos you provided and then took my 25 year old Maytag apart and decided to try and replace the belt, the drum roller wheels, and the drum glide pads. I ordered all the parts from you and was really pleased with their quick delivery. While vacuuming out the inside I realized that the idler pulley wheel was a disaster and I watched more videos and ordered a new wheel and the shaft washer and E ring. They also arrived very quickly. I had to buy some snap ring pliers, a 5/16 wrench and a rivet tool. I taught myself how to use the rivet tool to replace the drum glides and had a very difficult time (because it is almost completely inaccessible) replacing the idler pulley wheel. I also had a very hard time figuring out how to replace the dryer belt because of the way it loops and the fact that you can't see what you are doing. But I DID IT! They dryer is working perfectly and quietly now. I am a 68 year old woman and my husband still can't believe I fixed it. I am VERY PROUD of myself! 

I replaced the drum support rollers, roller axle, drum belt and tension pulley. The noise is gone and dryer runs like new. I am happy appliancepartspro have all the parts I needed to fix my dryer.
