How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009347 / WP4391960 Dryer Heating Element

Replaced the heating element cage. 

I researched on a variety of sites. AppliancePartsPro showed me how to do it and had the best price for the part. I am not mechanically inclined but with the directions on line I fixed this in 15 minutes. 

Removed burnt out element, removed large amount of lint from inside housing, lubricated drum rollers and belt roller. Installed replacement element, assembled unit, tested all ok. 

I did the necessary research to make sure there was not a different problem that caused the heating element to fail. Also the heating element out of my Whirlpool dryer had different element connectors for mine were round and the only elements that could be purchased had flat connectors. There is a wiring kit that I could have ordered but I made the necessary wiring changes myself. Another issue that came up was no one including myself could track down the Model number of this dryer so I had to use the part numbers to get the information I needed. The bottom line is I did order the correct part and made the hardware modification that were needed. I installed the heating element and ran a large load through with no additional issues so all is well. Regards, Rod Baker 12/04/2014

Tested the thermostats and element for continuity, replaced defective element 

Replace. Correct part was shipped same day as ordered (as description stated it would be), and arrived 2 days later. Excellent service from excellent seller. Highly recommend.

I have always been somewhat of a DIY type of guy most of my life. But now I'm getting a bit over the hill for this kind of stuff anymore. Even at my age, a dryer is pretty simple. Checked the obvious things first, then after checking the exploded parts views supplied by Appliance Parts Pro, I pulled the back off and checked the continuity of the heating element. I had found the problem. I also checked the thermocouples and fuses to make sure there weren’t any other problems. I then placed my order for a new heating element Saturday evening. It was shipped on Monday and I received it Wednesday afternoon. I had the dryer back up and working Wednesday evening. My wife was happy.
