How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007565 / WP307178 Heater Assembly

After an estimate of $270 to replace the dryer heating element, I decided to search the net for help. Appliance Parts Pros came to the rescue. Not only was the price the lowest ($100), but you also had a video for our exact dryer. All I did was put the model number of the dryer and up popped the a perfect layout detailing every dryer part. Not only was it easy to figure out what was needed but the video made installation almost foolproof. Except for spending 10 minutes on one rusty screw (isn't that always the case), the rest of the installation took maybe 5 minutes. Fabulous...by the way, I am a 68 year old female who was showing my 42 year old son how to do this. 

We replaced the heating assembly. A friend convinced me this was an easy fix. I researched the part, and found a terrific you tube video to walk me through the procedure. It was very straight forward, and took between 30-40 minutes to fix. It was very satisfying to complete this project. Thanks for the terrific video, and great customer service! 

Ordered heating element and hi temp switch. Watched video and changed all in not much over 30 minutes 

Ordered the heating element and thermostat, and belt, just in case. Installed the heating element and thermostat; still no heat. Did not replace belt since drum was turning OK. finally noticed timer knob was not moving. Removed timer and it stunk. Opened it up. Found broken and burned plastic inside. Ordered timer. 

It was a huge help to have and watch the video prior to attempting to replacing the heating element.

Change the heater assembly, clean inside heater and motor area 

Based on your recommendation, I installed a hi-temp thermostat. It didn't fix it, but I probably still needed one. Then I installed a heating element. Then the dryer started heating properly, still not good air flow out the vent. I used my wet vac and pulled 6 gallons of water from the vent line, and the dryer began working and venting very well. During this project, I used your chat site 3 times. Great people and helpful suggestions each time. I also used a couple of your videos. They were easy to follow and made the part exchanges go quickly. Thanks to all of you. It was a super experience,
