How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013115 / WP8544771 Dryer Heating Element

Replaced heater coil and thermal fuse. 

I replaced the heating element 

I went online and ordered a thermal fuse and a heating element (worst case scenario) from AppliancePartsPros.com. the parts arrived on time and were perfect replacement parts. It may have been a blessing in disquise because it gave me the opportunity to vaccuum out the interior of the dryer to remove the accumulated lint (a potential fire hazard). It turned out the heating element had failed. 

Checked dryer element with ohm meter and it was open indicating the element was burned. Ordered and used videos provided on website to help take cabinet apart and replace element.

After replacing the fuse and removed the lint from the vent the dryer worked once but seemed very hot then a repeat of the original problem. Reopened the back and again the fuse was blown this time I looked for some other part causing the problem. Inspected the heater coil and found 2 loops of the heater broken off and one side of the coil was touching the case ground. Order a new OEM heater assembly installed it and so far the dryer worked great for 4 times so far. Problem solved.

First had a friend come check to make sure I had 240 going to the heating element and then we saw the little break in it. Thermal fuse was fine. Thermostat was OK so I ordered the heating element. Very good video from you guys step-by-step took care of. I wouldn’t have been able to do without the video so very good video. I had to replace a belt about a year ago so I watched a video for that so I kinda knew how to take the front off and I also had to back off to replace the pulley .
