How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005811 / WP211726 Hinge Ball

I read other people's suggestions while waiting for the package to arrive. So when I got it in the mail, I had an idea what to do. I realized that trying to control 2 small plastic balls and apply force to move the lid in place might be slightly frustrating. So I did my repair a little differently. I grabbed the scotch tape and taped both small balls to the dents in the lid. I placed the lid with the left ball in place and then slid the whole lid back toward the panel and snapped it into place. I then lifted the lid and removed the scotch tape. Less than 2 minutes to install!!!!! 

Removed lid sanded down all rust spots, taped over the printed instructions on the inside of the lid, washed with alcohol and spray painted with appliance white epoxy paint. Replaced the plastic hinge-balls and one of the lid support/bumper grommet. It was actually easier to install the lid than removing it; used a small amount of grease to hold both balls in place, by holding the lid vertical and placing the left side to the inserted ball and then pushing the right side down. The lid slides in easy due to the round corner of the lid. 

I ordered two small balls that connect the lid to the machine. It worked! All is well

We ordered the parts From Appliance Parts Pro. The parts arrived in two days. We did not need any tools to fix it. Washer works great now!
