How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6030643 / W10884390 Icemaker

Ice maker stopped making ice. I found two cubes jammed in the rakes that push ice out. Still didn’t work. Took cover off and found burnt wires. Ordered new one here. Hardest part is getting the power plug off because of the two clips. I cut the new makers clips off. Works great. Thanks. Saved me over $300 versus in home service call. 

I used a nut driver to install the ice maker. The room is limited for a larger person. So it took a little longer maybe 20 minutes. The installation went well since the part was the exact replacement. 

I started by replacing the water filter as it was much older than six months. That increased flow to the water outlet but did not fix the icemaker. I replaced the icemaker, removing the door then 3 screws holding it in, installing the new one in reverse order and whalla!! All fixed!! 

Heating element stopped working causing rotating assembly to get stuck. Was less expensive to replace the icemaker assembly than just the heating element. 

Since it was the heat coil not warming up before the motor kicked the ice out, I replaced the entire unit. 

After watching some DIY videos , I tested the ice maker to make sure it was the problem. I was able to get a replacement and did myself. It took longer than expected because I had to take the freezer door and draws off and put them back. The new ice maker is working perfectly.
