How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008791 / WP37001308 Igniter

Replaced the igniter and thoroughly cleaned everything under the drum. 

The igniter never got hot, did not glow upon start. Unplugged it left it installed and tested for continuity between the pins of the plug, it was open, no continuity. Removed it and it was brittle, actually broke apart when removed. Replaced and I was good to go. I did the coils 3 years ago for another no heat problem. If I were to do the coils again, I would do the igniter while I was at it. 

Ordered an igniter. Put it on. BINGO heat. 

My Maytag dryer is about 19years old..through the years I have relied upon APP for all repairs including replacing the motor..this time since the dryer was not drying the clothes I decided to replace all the possible parts..the Thermostat, Coils, Flame Sensor, and a few others....about an hour later after also taking the time to vacuum out the lower pan and clear any debris. I was up and running drying clothes like a fiend. 

Replaced igniter and the 2 gas valve coils-all set. New dryer cost: 600-800 (Gas) repair cost: $80!! 

Watched your video. Tested electrical continuity of Igniter (most common fault listed) it tested bad. Ordered part on Sunday and you shipped it Monday. Easy . Thank you 

The videos from appliance parts pros showed me how to diagnose and test the likely parts causing the problem. These included how to pull apart the dryer to get to things. I was able to determine the igniter was broken so ordered the $23 dollar part and had it shipped next day air. The part arrived the next day and I put it in the dryer and all was fixed! Fantastic experience. 

She turned off the dryer and waited for me to come home. She wanted to buy another dryer but the stores were closed. I went to pull the Dryer out and tried to move the Basket around, it didn't move very well. I figured it was the belt. I removed the Tumbler and checked the pullies. The tensioner and one of the pullies were tough to turn. I checked the motor and it was fine. So I check at APP they had the parts. I was cleaning the dust from the Dryer I broke the igniter. had to add this to the order. In two days the order was received and the shipping monkeys had broken the igniter. I immediately called, Kathy had me upload the pics of the igniter and sent an email out. In two days the second Igniter was installed and the wife is Happy! 

Disconnected the wire lead and then I pried the ignitor out of the little frame it sits in.
