How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008791 / WP37001308 Igniter

Igniter and gas coils 

Replaced new solenoids and thermostat replaced along with ignitor, bulb, belt,and pulley as preventative maintenance with thorough cleaning. 

Not really knowing the source of the problem, I choose to replace several components. Opening up the dryer was easy and removal of the drum is not that complicated. Replacing these parts took about 10 minutes. The igniter required a very small open end wrench to remove, but that was the most difficult of the parts to replace. The rest was very easy. The end result, my dryer works like new again ! Very happy. 

Replaced the ignighter 

My husband watched several videos (none of which looked like our dryer) and tested the various components that could be bad. The only bad component we found was the ignitor. It was located under the drum, so it was tricky getting it out without taking the entire dryer apart, but a little swearing and a 5/16 ratcheting wrench did the trick. He replaced it and, voila, we have heat again. We were emboldened to go after the squeak next, but that's another story. 

I looked all over for the igniter and the places that I was calling wanted between 60 and 70 for the part. My dad told me to look at this website and I found the part and ordered it. It came faster than I thought and I put it in and now it works. I will be looking here for all my parts in the future. 

Purchased replacement and switched it. Knew part by unplugging dryer and doing a continuity test on part. 

I bought a gas valve coil kit for less than $15 and changed the coils. The dryer works great now. 

I replaced the igniter and now it works like new. I was amazed how quickly the part arrived. 

My Amana Dryer would intermittently smell of gas. I removed the cover and cleaned well. I think that helped, but still faintly smelled gas on occasion. Ordered and replaced the igniter and gas valve coil kit. No longer smell gas... BTW... The parts arrived next day, even though I used std shpg.
