Gerald C Claremont , CA January 30, 2021 Appliance: Maytag Atlantis Washer MAV6000AWQ Washer filled with water and clothes will not start unless slamming lid or hitting the lid. From a fix it problem decision list, the list recommended replacing the Lid Switch Kit. A video describing the repair informed me how to access the part, but not clear how to remove the old switch and install the new switch. I had to improvise and use my fix it background to remove and install the kit. To remove push switch forward and lift to install insert the switch push forward then release pushing pressure to lock switch in place. The push rod plastic part must be installed after removing the switch. The old pushrod is pulled out of its retaining assembly and the new pushrod is inserted into the retaining assembly. There is an orientation process by rotating the pushrod to allow full insertion into the retaining assembly. After replacing the switch replace all safety covers and run a shorten wash cycle opening and closing lid should stop then start the wash cycle. The lid when opened acts as a safety switch to prevent injury to the operator or children and with the lid open all mechanical operation stops. Go for it; you can do the repair without service call expense. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
