How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009327 / WP4389142 Evaporator Fan Motor

Easiest fix I ever made! 8 screws to get to motor, 2 screws to get motor out. Replace old motor with new (perfect fit). Slapped it back together and done. Works great now! 

Shippment fast and part was installed (be sure to have gromets on hand),but part was not the problem...since the box was 14 yrs old ,I bought a new one. New refrigertors are fulll of surprises.The new Whirlpool I bought does not have a light in freezer comp.Also it woun't hold a gallon bottle of milk anywhere in in refrig compartment. There are too many things to think of when buying a new refrig.I was more concernned about quality.Salesmen won't tell you anything if they knew anything! It may be wise to have older ones repaired rather than rplacing, especially if you like the box. .,Measure large items in your box and when buying a new one see if there are any problem fitting them into box ! Hope this helps 

Replaced the motor. 

Ordered an evaporator fan motor from APP and replaced it myself for $80 

I used the evaporator fan/motor and the bimetallic defrost sensor. It took longer to remove all the shelving and the ice bin than to do the actual repair. I allowed the ice to thaw and runoff while I worked. I had difficulty reaching the back of the freezer compartment because I am so short. Had to recruit my grandson for those parts. It was close quarters to work in there splicing wires for the sensor. It would have been easier with properly applied wire nuts. By the way, I'm a 72-year-old grandma (pretty handy in my day). If I can do it, you can too! 

Model and part confirmation on the great web site. Ordered part then shipper delivered somewhere else and couldn't find it! Brandy in customer service was superb and sent a replacement part. Installed and fat and happy again. Excellent web site and customer service. Price was within range for sitting in my living room with no appliance store visits and model confirmation issue. 5 stars. Watched video & took only about half hr, as they said. 

Changed motor. 

I called a tech. Put the phone in the freezer. He said it sounds like the bearing was going out on the fan motor. Then went to appliancepartspros.com per his request. Ordered the part it even showed up a day early. The video install made it a breeze. 

Very easy just un screw every thing with a nut driver,undue the wire connections.And just reverse the process.
