How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008540 / WP3404233 Start Switch

I have not been able to as of yet. However, replacing this switch was so easy. I am a woman with no mechanical inclination at all. I went to a neighbor's house to borrow the ratchet(?). I watched the video and unscrewed the back and replaced the switch. The only thing not mentioned in the video was how you know where the wires went. Luckily I took a pic with my phone so I could remember. I did not see anything on the switch that would let me know. Even though it obviously was not the problem I was still excited that I was able to replace it. LOL 

Replaced the push to start button 

Bought replacement parts, fuse and start switch. Fuse was the fix. 

Replaced switch with new part 

I checked out the "How To" video on U-Tube and it really was that simple. About ten minutes from start to finish. I removed 6 screws from the back cover panel of our dryer and the switch un-clipped from it's socket as shown in the video. I needed a screwdriver to start the wires off the switch posts and I simply replaced the wires one at a time. I replaced the back panel and installed the push knob. Job Done, dryer back in place barely 10 Mins. 

I did a quick search and found that the 3 most common reasons why a dryer wouldn't start are pretty simple fixes. Last year, we fixed a heating coil on our dryer thanks to the parts and video posted on this site. With that in mind, I replaced the door switch and start switch that were purchased here. Those two did the trick and the dryer works great!. 

Ordered the switch and replaced it. Took me about 30 minutes total. I did open the old switch and found the contact points were fused together. It was shot. 

Replaced the start switch. 

Both the Door Closing Switch and the push to Start Switch were defective. 

Our dryer had been in storage for 4 years while we were overseas. At some point, someone put or dropped something heavy on the top of the dryer that crushed the control knob for the starter switch and broke off the shaft of the switch inside the know. The repair was very easy - just removed the metal panel behind the control panel on the back of the dryer, pulled out the starter switch, and transferred 4 electrical connection clips from the old switch to the new one. Snapped the new switch into the dryer and put the new knob onto the switch shaft outside the panel. There was a very good explanatory video on the AppliancePartsPros.com website. I also benefited from their exploded view of the dryer parts to order them. The only surprise was the huge price tag: 110 bucks for a knob and a switch!!!
