Mark April 16, 2020 for Model Number MEDC200XW3 I have a MEDC200XW3 that runs as soon as the timer is advanced without needing to press the start buttons. The dryer also runs with the door open, and even with the door switch disconnected. On top of this the heating element won't energize. I've replaced the heating element and all limits/thermostats (dryer worked fine after this for a few days). Most recent repair was replacing the motor. The timer reads open/closed correctly. Start switch and door switch only read closed when depressed. What is left to check?
1 Answer Mark, it would be recommended that the wiring is checked for a grounded out connection. Based on the information provided, as the door switch is operating properly the motor should not be able to operate unless there is a grounded connection somewhere between the motor and the door switch. In regards to the element not energizing, once the wires are checked for any grounded out connections as well as ensuring the wires are connected to the necessary terminals, the terminal block would need to be tested for 240VAC from the black wire to the red wire. If there is not 240VAC, the next step would be to test each side to neutral to identify where there is not 120VAC. If there is 240VAC, and the wires check as being connected properly, the last possibility would be the timer WP8299779. Read More...
Dave O October 10, 2018 for Model Number WET4027EW1 I have model WET4027EW1 The dryer won't start When I press the start button with the setting for signal it just sounds signal no start. When set in non signal no sound and no start. What could it be? Also checked all thermal fuses and t-stats all good. Timer was replace with good one and no change, Motor turns freely not jammed. Start button is the question for proper operation How to check for bad motor. Motor Capacitor?
1 Answer Dave, You can open door hold the door switch or tape it closed and when pressing start manually spin the drum by hand. If it starts you need a motor.[easiest way] Read More...
Jimmy J. April 19, 2017 for Model Number 3404233 Just got the 3404233 power switch for my Whirlpool Kenmore 600 series dryer. There are no wiring diagrams on the back of the unit or the plate to access the knob area. There was a paper in that void, but it looks to be for the entire dryer. I don't see anything detailing which of the four wires go to which post. http://i.imgur.com/bagyiNE.jpg In fact, the only thing that addresses this is a warning: "Label all wires prior to disconnection when servicing controls. Wiring errors can cause improper and dangerous operation." Unfortunately, I did not see this until after it was disconnected. The example install video is for a completely different part. Does anyone know which wire goes to which post? There are two blacks,a brown, and a red/white wire.
1 Answer Hello Jimmy, I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can pull the wiring diagram, (if available). This would be the only way we can accurately advise on the wiring of the part. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Read More...
Al August 19, 2015 for Model Number Kenmore electric dryer - model 110.64832400 Hi. My dryer doesn't stop when I open the door - so it appears that the dryer door switch assembly is bad. It also has another issue. When I press the 'push to start' button when it's in the 'signal on' position, the dryer starts correctly. But when I switch it to the 'signal off' position and press the 'push to start' button, the dryer will NOT turn off. Does that mean that the 'push to start' switch is bad ... or could that ALSO be due to the bad dryer door switch assembly ... OR is the second issue caused by something else?
1 Answer Hello Al. You will need to check the signal switch and see if it is shorted out. If not, then the timer will need to be replaced along with the door switch. Read More...
Al August 17, 2015 for Model Number Kenmore 80 series electric dryer - model 110.64832400 I think my dryer has 2 problems. (1) If the dryer is running and I open the dryer door, it continues to run - that problem should be the Dryer Door Switch Assembly. (2) The dryer 'Push to Start' button will successfully start the dryer when the button is in the 'Signal On' position. The 'Push to Start' button will NOT turn the dryer off if it is pressed when in the 'Signal Off' position. Is that a problem with the 'Push to Start Switch' ?
1 Answer Al, The door switch WP3406107 or the wiring at the door switch is definitely a problem, the switch will most likely need to be replaced. The push to start switch WP3404233 should not be the issue. It is a "momentary" contact switch and completes the neutral side of the circuit to the motor. Once the motor starts and runs, the switch is out of the circuit. Check the signal switch circuit to make sure it "opens" and "closes" when the control switch is on or off. Then check the "T" terminal to the 'W" terminal, on the timer to make sure the circuit is "closed" on all the settings except the wrinkle guard setting. Read More...
Crystal May 27, 2014 for Model Number inglis dryer My dryer won't start it's not the switch changed that a month ago love the video that helped me and it saved me money took the vent fuse off but don't know how to check and see if it's bad don't have a meter thing.
1 Answer Crystal, Just as a test you could connect the 2 leads from the thermal fuse together to see if the dryer will start. If it will then you will need to replace the thermal fuse but do not use the unit until the part is replaced as it is a safety device. If the thermal fuse does turn out to be bad then you will want to check to make sure that the vent is clear from the blower wheel all the way to the outside of your home. Read More...
Clueless May 19, 2014 for Model Number Kenmore 80 series dryer My dryer stopped working and I have been testing all the switches. On the start switch, the large nodes test that it is working but the small nodes read that they are not. Can you explain what this means?
1 Answer Hello. It sounds like the start switch is good. The NO and COM should close when pressed. If so it is good. You will need to check the door switch and the thermal fuse. If both are good, then it sounds like the motor is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
John L. April 24, 2014 for Model Number 100.68632700 On the push to start button on my dryer, does there need to be 120 volts on all four prongs?
1 Answer Hello John, If there were 120Vac on all prongs, there would be no use for the switch since a switches job is to discontinue or pass the voltage. You will need to refer to the wiring diagram to discern the wiring and determine which should have voltage and which is the load side of the switch. We can assist you further if you could please re-post with the verified model number from the units' I.D. tag. Read More...
Robert April 23, 2014 for Model Number MEDC200XW1 Hello, I needed to check an issue with my dryer. The timer wouldn't advance so replaced with W10185988 and that part works great. However like similar posts when I turn the timer it immediately starts. May be the start switch. I am concerned though when I open the door the drum stops turning as it should but I noticed a glow and the element doesn't cut off it continues to glow and doesn't fade? Has something else grounded out or could this just be a symptom of the start switch? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Robert. You need to look for a grounded wire touching metal and causing these issues with the unit. Read More...
Earl R August 07, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool twin washer & dryer The dryer will not start. I replaced the door swicth which appeared to be broken. I had the start switch tested and was told it was OK. I may not have hooked the wires back up correctly. Do you know what wires get attached to part # 3404233? If the switch is OK, what else should I check?
1 Answer Hello Earl. You can use the wiring diagram on the unit to install the wires. If the switch and the door switch is good, check the thermal fuse and if it is good, replace the motor on the unit. Read More...
