How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010287 / WP67001668 Water Filter Backing Plate

I purchased a Center Rail, Door Shelf Bin, Water Filter Backing Plate, and Pantry Drawer Door Cover from AppliancePartsPros.com. The front leg/roller assemblies were reversed so the cover plate could not be installed. I propped up the front using leveling wedges, then switched the assemblies, re-adjusted the front legs, and installed the cover plate. The center rail was easy to snap in place after removing the two drawers from the glass shelf. I watched the ApplianceParts Pros video about replacing the water filter backing plate. The process was simple enough, but it took a lot of pressure to get old unit's plastic clips to release and to snap the new unit in place. The left pantry drawer support was easy to replace once the drawer was removed and it was no problem to reinstall the drawer rail and the drawer. Once done I installed the pantry drawer cover and it worked perfectly. Finally, after watching some videos, I removed and examined the ice maker. It turned out the only thing wrong was that the shutoff wire was not properly installed. After correction and re-installation, I couldn't tell if anything was different, but the next morning - lo and behold - ICE! Many thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com and other resource providers for help with my successful project. 

I replaced the backing plate with a new one. 

Followed the online video, used a 1" putty knife. 

Remove and replace Water Filter Head and, Dual water Inlet Valve. 

I ordered the correct parts from Appliance Parts Pros and followed their video to remove the broken parts and install the new parts! I struggled a little because some of the parts didn't pop off as easily as it looked in the video (although part of the issue was I was afraid the tabs would break off inside the holes if I used too much pressure, but they didn't!) But I did the job myself while my hubby snoozed on the couch! 

The water suddenly stopped coming out of the dispenser. I heard a loud water hammer sound and then it completely stopped. I thought that there might be a water line obstruction or a problem with the solenoid valve but I could hear it hum when I pressed the button. I removed the filter and used the cap with no success. I loosened the cap all the way and turned it slowly clockwise as I pressed the water dispenser button and water flowed slowly making a sucking sound. As soon as I got it fully installed the water abruptly stopped. The filter is the first place the water goes from the supply line so I focused on that. I am glad that I replaced the water filter head first, as it came as a complete assembly with the hoses and new filter block off the cap and it was a cheap part at $36. It was a very easy install with no tools (except for a 1/2" wrench I used to compress the quick connect for the hose to the solenoid and to tighten the supply line) and it immediately began working again. 

Took it out and put the new pieces back in 

Popped the broken one off, snapped the replacement one in place. 

Pulled down on the old backplate, in order to pop it out; the new backplate pops right in; you'll need to apply some effort both ways, but the repair is quick
