How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008659 / WP35-6465 Drain Pump Assembly

Ordered a new pump. 

Ordered a replacement pump. Followed video on how to replace. Real easy! Just remember, there is water in the hoses and pump. Need a second person to hold up washer when putting drive belt back on. 

Ordered new one. Watched video on YouTube on how to replace it. It's working well. 

Removed the drain pump assembly and installed the new part purchased from Appliance Parts Pros. 3 screws and two hoses, took 15 minutes. 

I lifted up top of washer and removed front cover from washer. Listening to the washer run in various cycles unloaded it seemed like the sound was coming from the pump. The pump still worked fine in pumping water. I removed the washer belt underneath the unit and then spun the pump pulley by hand. It seemed to make and intermittent sound when I turned it. I called and ordered the pump from appliance parts pros.com. It is easy to install. Took around 40 minutes to remove and then reinstall new pump. Sounds and works like new again. 

Replaced water pump with the drain pump assembly. Removed the back cover, removed main drive belt, removed intake and output drain hoses to pump, removed 3 screws holding pump to washing machine, reversed procedure to install new pump. 

Figuring out the problem was the hardest part. The washing machine, which is 14 years old, was making a loud noise while agitating and spinning. My husband and I first replaced the thrust bearing and belt after watching the video on this website. The belt we replaced just because it was old. The thrust bearing was in bad shape when we took it apart but it wasn't the problem. We then watched more video's to figure out the problem. The bottom of the pump was making a grinding noise when we rotated it after we took the belt off. We used this website and youtube to diagnose the problem. The drain pump was very easy to replace and solved the problem. My husband did have to watch a video on how to open the front panel of the machine. We received the parts in a timely manner. We will continue to replace worn out parts on this washing machine when they break because I really like this machine and I have heard many complaints about the new ones they are now manufacturing. This was also the first repairs we have ever had to make on this old machine. 

I riginally ordered the thrust kit. That didn't help. After consulting with AppliandPartsPros.com's chat feature, I ordered, received and installed a replacement pump. That did the trick.
