How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009844 / WP6-2022030 Washer Drain Pump

I ordered a new pump from Appliance Pros. They had the exact part I needed. They delivered the part within 24 hours! While it seemed straightforward to replace the pump, I used Youtube.com to make sure that I was replacing the pump correctly. 

I removed the front cover of the washing machine and inspected the pump. I immediately noticed a tiny child's sock stuck in the clear plastic pump housing. I pulled it out with needle nose pliers. The pump was then able to be rotated. To play it safe I replaced the old pump and pump belt following the directions enclosed with the parts and the available videos I found. I was very pleased with the excellent parts and shipping service I received from Appliance Parts Pros. The parts were a perfect match and the delivery was super fast. 

What it turned out to be was a chunk of "stuff" was stuck in the water pump!! I dislodged it and it seemed to work fine after. I decided to "upgrade" to a new pump and also change out the belts while I was at it. 

Pull wash machine a way from wall and install a block under the front to hold the machine up. remove both belts and remove the 3 bolts holding the pump. install the new pump install 3 bolts leaving them slightly lose, installing back belt and then the belt for the pump. make proper adjustment and tighten the bolts. 

I took off ack covers and had to tip on side. had to remove front plate to get screws out of pump. simple to do two clamps on hoses and the screws in pump. 

Replaced water pump Very easy and straight forward process 

I ordered the parts from your site, received in 3 days. Very easy replacement installation. I am a 55 year old woman who repairs all of my appliances. With Internet sites like Appliance Parts and YouTube anyone can do the same. 

I did replace the pump which was very easy. The threads on the old pump were fairly stripped so it was hard to keep tension on the belt. At first I thought lack of tension was causing the drain problem. The real fix was clearing the hose going to the pump- that had a hard, felted, ball of wool about the size of a small mouse. 

Removed the old one by unscrewing it from the bottom, installed new one and reconnected water hoses, and it was good to go. 

I ordered a replacement part to fix it.
