How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010255 / WP661658 Dishwasher Drain Pump

Replaced drain pump. 

Looked up "trouble shooting" for my type of dishwasher. Then watched the video explaining the problem and the part it needed. We ordered the part on a Friday and it arrived on the following Tuesday. My husband made the repair himself on Wednesday. A bit of a wait for the part but a lot cheaper than a new dishwasher. 

I replaced the motor and pump assembly as a single unit. I did this because we plan on keeping this dishwasher as long as we can. We really like it. I also decided to replace drain pump and motor and water valve while I had dishwasher out even though they were working fine for a 10 year old machine. It took me a little over 2 hours with most of that time used removing dishwasher from under the cabinet. Repair was really easy paying attention to making sure all o-rings are properly lubribricated for easy installation and no leaks. Dishwasher is operating better than new now and is super quiet. Hopefully it will last us another 10 years. Saved a ton of money by doing repair myself. THANKS!!! 

GOOGLED problem. 1st fix, clean drain basket, helped little: 2nd fix replaced pump motor assembly fixed problem. Your video is excellent and made the job easy. Replacement parts perfect fit. Saved having to buy a new dishwasher that does not clean or dry well based on the majority of reviews. (Doesn’t matter the brand) 

Dishwasher would not drain. Figured it was drain pump (I could hear the pump running) or circuit board. When I removed the pump the impeller fell off. It takes like 5 minutes to swap the pump, but 2 hours to R&R the dishwasher to get to the pump. Ordered the pump on Sunday night and received at 2:00 on Tuesday. Thanks to APP only went without dishwasher 2 days. Over the years I have replaced main pump assembly, soap dispenser, and other various parts thanks to APP. 

Cleaned the screens and cleaned the food grinder and replaced the drain pump. 

Ordered the motor and assembly from appliancepartspros.com and watched the replacement video on the order page and that helped a lot! Disconnected everything, the hardest part was disconnecting the water line power and drain as there wasn’t a lot of room. Parts went back in as the video showed. There was an extra component on my drain line that the instruction didn’t show but was easy to figure out how to install it back on the new motor assembly. I also ordered a new drain pump motor just to be on the safe side and that went in as well with no problems. Got it all done checked for leaks and it works great and is much quieter! The instruction video on the parts ordering page was the best help for someone that may think that they couldn’t tackle a job like this.
