This is the dryer that came with the house 16 years ago, so it's older than that...
Last year I had replaced the belt and the felt gasket to great success.
A week ago, the dryer would initially heat up - but only once - so the timer would not advance.
I didn't have much time to troubleshoot, so i ordered all of the key parts save one.
The lack of drying suggested that one of the four sensors were at fault. There are two sensors and a thermal fuse on the back panel. There is a flame sensor and two coils to regulate gas flow.
When the parts came, I took the time to test the thermal sensors "Good" is zero-ohms resistance when closed and infinite resistance when open. I used a heat gun to make confirm functionality. The thermal fuse is designed to blow when the dryer vent is block. That's only happened once in 16 years.
Even though these parts tested good, I replaced them anyway.
I then opened the top of the unit, removed the front panel and drum, and then replaced the flame sensor and gas-flow coils.
After re-assembly, the dryer functioned as it should. While I spent nearly $100 with parts and shipping, that was still $300 less than the cheapest replacement option.
The videos are a tremendous help.
