How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

Replaced entire unit 

Ordered ice maker, since control board tests passed. And ice maker had quit dumping ice. Fixed noise problem and started getting making ice. 

Icemaker was 22 years old, replaced the whole assembly 

Replaced the icemaker 

After many attempts at leveling , modulating the amount of water, replacing the solenoid valve I decided the problem was with the icemaker supplied by the repairman. I ordered a new one (2nd “new one”) from Appliance Parts Pros. After several weeks of frustration and an outlay of over $500 for “professional” installation. By this time I was pretty familiar with the installation with the help of YouTube videos and practice. Installation could not have gone any easier. 

Unfortunately, the whole ice maker assembly must be replaced. Replacement is easy and straightforward. One reminder: Make sure to cycle the power to the fridge after installation to properly initialize the ice maker. I originally did not do that, and experienced the ice ejector rake being out of phase causing dispensing issues. 

Replaced ice maker 

Ordered a new icemaker from appliance parts Pros and fit perfectly and works great 

Replaced ice maker. Old one was leaking at gearbox end. Also release coating on ice cube tray/die was bubbling and flaking off. 

Ordered replacement ice maker. Had to exchange a few parts from the old unit but the whole process took maybe 15 minutes total. The new unit immediately filled and within a few minutes the first batch of ice was produced.
