How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

I replaced the whole ice maker unit. 

Ordered a new ice maker and works great! 

Ordered a new ice maker and a new water valve. Ice maker arrived in Two days installed new ice maker. Solved problem no leaks making ice and ice bin full. Perfect. The valve arrived a few days later but I am keeping it because it is the original valve on the fridge. 

Ordered ice maker kit. Arrived in 2 days. Easy to remove old ice maker with good instruction video. Replaced with new one and it only took a few minutes. Started making ice a little while later. 

My refrigerator is an older Whirlpool side-by-side with icemaker and water in the door. It is the laundry room backup so repairing was much more cost effective than replacing the whole unit. I originally replaced the water valves and filter to stop the Icemaker from splashing water on the ice in the drawer below the unit. Still continued to have the problem. Upon removing the Icemaker I realized it would be easier to completely replace the unit rather than rebuild. Ordered the Whirlpool Icemaker Kit from AppliancePartsPros.com. Received the parts very quickly (2 days). Everything needed was in the kit. The whole replacement was in and done in less than 15 minutes. I checked the filter and replaced it with a bypass. I established good water flow via the water tap on the door. Next was removing/replacing the maker which took all of ten minutes. Full ice bucket in 24 hours. I'd done this 4 years earlier and now wondering if this maker will fail in that time. We'll see. 

I purchased an new ice maker unit, and it fixed my problem. It was very easy to install, and shipping was much faster than expected. I hope mine does not go out again, but at least I know where I can get parts is needed. Thanks 

Ordered a Whirlpool Icemaker Kit from AppliancePartsPros. Received the new icemaker in just a few days. Watched the YouTube video about the installation. It went very well-took about 20 minutes to R & R. 

Took things apart after watching the videos and saw the ice maker was functional but all corroded or dirty with stuff from water and in watching the video realized the water on the floor was unrelated to the ice maker. I bought the parts to make the repair. Two comments to the videos, the one for the icemaker should show how to get the top basket out of the freezer. I found another video that showed how to do that and was much easier to get to the ice maker and to remove the back panel. In the second video on the drain tube upgrade the guy just grabs the old tube and pulls it out no mention of the tab that holds it in. stuck a screwdriver in there pressed the tab and it came right out. Finally, might be a good idea to say it takes about an hour or so to get the ice chunks out of the bottom of the freezer and around the thermistor cover. I had a huge chunk behind the cover that took almost an hour by itself and was all around the wires and copper tubes coil going to the heat exchanger so I couldn't just break it out. The heat gun was a plus but mine was so bad I had about an hour and a half to melt it last night. Today, no water on the floor and ice is being made. Hopefully good for a few more years. 

I ordered a new one from AppliancePartsPros. It arrived fast. Unplug refrigerator Loosen two screws, take out one screw, unplug one quick disconnect wire plug. install new one Plug-in Wire set, slide new unit over Two loose screws, put in One screw, Tighten all Three. DONE and making Ice again
