How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

I installed replacement ice maker. Overall the installation was fairly simple, 3 screws and a wire harness that needed connecting. However, the instructions could have been clearer. For example, they did not make clear there was a plastic tab that needed to be removed to make room for the water hose feeding the icemaker. It also never showed or mentioned a plastic bracket that needed to be attached to the ice maker so it could be attached to the fridge wall. It was good I still had the older nonfunctioning ice maker so I could see how everything went together. 

Applied silicone to socket holding bale in for temporary fix until new icemaker arrived. Replaced ice maker and both issues were resolved. First unit arrived with damaged part but Appliance Parts PROS shipped replacement immediately and it arrived 3 days later. Extremely pleased that both issues were resolved and damaged part was immediately replaced. Great vendor to work with. 

Replace the ice maker. 

We watched Matt on the YOUTUBE video a couple times, ordered the kit from AppliancePartsPros, and swapped out the old one for the replacement. The task took us 41 minutes. Matt is an excellent instructor. While he works with all the small pieces and in the tight confines of the freezer, he wears work gloves. That is like Ginger Rogers dancing in high heels. 

The first step was to pull the refrigerator away from the wall and disconnect power. I had to remove a couple of shelves in order to gain access to the ice maker. The instructions indicated loosening a couple of screws and lift the icemaker out. Actually, I had to loosen the water intake hose and completely remove the screws holding down the part. The next First fstep was to remove the metal plate behind the ice maker....this plate restricted the movement of the electrical wiring harness which I needed the extra length to gain access to the wiring connector. With a small screwdriver, carefully pry away the electrical connector from the ice maker component. This was a little tricky but once I noticed the small plastic tab holding it in place, the screwdriver was essential. The final step is to reverse everything as above. The only complication I had was the tight space of moving the ice maker component as well as the metal plate out of the way (had to manipulate both pieces diagonally and move away from the original position) The water hose receptacle was different from the original. Thus, I had to use the original hose clip in order to hold the hose in place. 

Ordered new part which showed a match for my part. 

Ordered a replacement from AppliancePartsPros.com. It arrived in a few days with good instructions and I was able to replace the old one in less than an hour. Works great and I am very pleased! 

First, I replaced the water valve but that did not work. The video on the AppliancePartsPros site was easy to follow so I ordered a replacement ice maker. Delivery was fairly prompt with standard delivery given COVID delays. I installed the ice maker without any problem in 20 minutes (three screws and a plug) and it was working again immediately. 

I ordered the New part. it arrived, damaged, I started a return the next day, I sent pictures of the damage, as requested. I was totally impressed that all this happened on a Sunday. Customer Service working on a Sunday to fix My situation. Awesome. The New parts are on their way. On Monday morning, WOW, THANKS. I'll be installing the new parts, with a Nut Driver and a Screwdriver. 

Replaced icemaker. It was so easy. Loosened screws. I couldn't unplug it, so I just removed the wires from the old one and clipped them on the new one. It works great. The hardest thing was being able to see. I have an old Amana fridge that has had one icemaker replaced already, so maybe that was why it was so easy. IT helps to remove the white cap so you can see around it some.
