How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

Ordered new ice maker. - Shut off power to refrigerator - Shut off water supply to ice maker - Disconnected ice maker cable from connector behind ice maker - Removed old ice maker from freezer. - Removed wire assembly from old ice maker and installed in replacement ice maker. - Removed ice level bale wire from old ice maker and installed in replacement ice maker. - Mounted new ice maker in freezer - Reconnected cable to connector behind ice maker - Turned on power to refrigerator - Turned on water supply to ice maker - Made sure ice maker bale wire in down (ON) position - After 24 hours ice was available 

Ordered new ice maker from Appliance Parts Pros.com. Arrived in about 4 days. In 15 minutes had replaced old ice maker with new one. Working great. I was ready to buy a new refrigerator. 

I bought a replacement Icemaker and Heat-Probe. The disassembly was a two-fer since I would have needed to remove the Icemaker to take out the back panel to access the defroster heating coil to mount the Heat-Probe. The most time consuming part was the removal/replacement of the frozen foods and thawing the ice buildup on the freezer floor with a blow dryer and making sure the drain was free flowing. 

Replaced the complete ice maker which was quick and easy. 

I'm a do it your self-er for most projects. I first tested the ice-maker to ensure it was the cause and not water blockage by adding some water to the maker manually. As the machine did not attempt to expel the ice after freezing the assumption was the ice-maker has gone kaput. I suspect the motor. As the unit was 14 years old anyhow, time for a new one. I purchase from here and received the product 2 days later. The install was super easy. Simply loosen the bolts and unscrew the screw, unplug the unit, and swap out. Couldn't be easier. About 6 hours later, the unit was sufficiently cold to start marking ice again. Cocktail time! 

I went online to Appliance Parts Pros got with the Chat people, confirmed correct parts. I ordered the ice maker and handles. The order was delivered in two days. I had used the the online video to get instruction which are very good. The parts were the right parts and the replacement went very well. I could not have asked for better service, help, and instructions. 

I replaced it with a new unit. I'm very glad I chose Appliance Parts rather than a competitor. Although I didn't need the on-line video, it was nice knowing that similar videos are available for other repairs. The combined cost f the ice maker including taxes and delivery were still less than what I would have paid from an appliance store. I was very surprised that I received the new unit 24 hours after making the purchase. . 

Ordered a new ice maker and istalled it myself. Placing the order was fast and easy. I removed the old ice maker and installed the new one on about 20 minutes. 

Viewed the replacement video on the appliancepartspros.com repair process to see how complicated the repair was. Replacement part ordered but took a full 7 days to cross 2 states?? Replacement part was authentic replacement and was installed in about 15 minutes. One thing that was not mentioned in the video...make sure the water spout in routed correctly into the ice maker. While we were ordering, replacement crisper drawer ordered as well. 

Looked up the problem online. Found photos of the exact same condition, along with descriptions...apparently it is a common problem as this particular ice maker wears out. My refrigerator/ice maker is 15 years old, so it was reasonable to believe it was time to replace it. I ordered the part and it arrived within a day and one half. It was easy to install, and took approximately 30 minutes to complete the job. No issues with changing over the 3 parts from the old ice maker to the new one (front cover/wiring harness/wire bail switch). The online video was extremely helpful and I highly recommend you watch it as it will save you time with the installation. The replacement ice maker was approximately 100.00 delivered, which saved me between $200-300 dollars, which is what a service call would have cost. Ice maker works perfect, it's a genuine replacement part, and was making ice within minutes of being installed. Highly recommend!
