How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

I used Appliance Pro for trouble shooting and couldn't be positive whether it was the ice maker or the water valve unit. I ordered both parts. Significant in the process "Samantha" on live chat couldn't find the model number and had me send a photo of the information plate. That saved the day! The icemaker replacement was the easiest access so I replaced it first after viewing the tutorial video. That solved the problem. At the same time a friend had a similar type problem and using a local repairman solved it for $280 while my repair cost $102 . Thank you Appliance Pro. 

I ordered the ice maker from appliancepartpros because it was $50 cheaper than I could have bought it locally which incidentally were gonna have to have it shipped to me also. Anyway I ordered on Friday received it Saturday...3 screws to loosen swap out the wiring harness and the bailfrom old unit to new unit and reinstall into freezer. Very easy and quick...took longer to remove new ice maker from shipping container than to install 

Determined the water inlet value craked, damper control was grinding, ice maker did not work. Using AppliancePartspros was wonderful. They had all the parts for our model. Moreover their "how to place" videos were an absolute blessing. Without the videos we would have likely junked our $2000 frig. Also the parts shipped & arrived amazingly fast. For less than $190 I have everything running perfectly and I feel like we have a new frig.

I ordered the Whirlpool Icemaker Kit on Sunday, rec'd it Tues. morning and installed it in about 30-45 mins. The most difficult step was getting at the top 2 screws to loosen them. The rest of the installation was just like the video shows. It was a piece of cake and fixed my problem. Kudos to Appliance Parts Pros. 

Replaced icemaker and shutoff arm. Easy project. 

My modular style was overfilling, causing the ice in the hopper to freeze together and eventually causing water to leak out of the dispenser controls in the door. Found that the control dial built into the ice maker had burnt a couple of contacts together and the water would fill for more like 15 seconds instead of the proper 7.5. The fill time adjustment had no effect. Ordered and installed the factory replacement icemaker and all is well. Just 3 screws and the wiring pigtail. Not counting exploratory and diagnostic time, this fix could have been done in 15 minutes. My refrigerator is 19 years old and the plastic walls have slightly deformed over time, so I also spent a minute shimming the bottom screw so the icemaker now sits level in the freezer. 

Installed new replacement Icemaker, following steps shown in tutorial video. Then replaced ring drive in ice dispenser tray. Wife and Grandson now happy as can be... 

Order a new ice maker kit 

Replaced the ice maker per AppliancePartsPros.com video instructions. Perfect fit, excellent video. Took 10 minutes. 1/4" nutdriver and flat head screw driver. Couldn't have been simpler. I did switch the cover from the old ice maker to the new one, just to make it look nicer, and because the new part had come with the cover on upside down (just an assembly mistake). Very proud of myself, I wondered why there was still no ice 18 hours later, though the instructions said it could take up to 24 hours for the ice maker to get cooled down enough to start making ice. Then I saw I'd left the refrigerator control turned OFF. Threw out the ruined food, and felt less proud. Full ice compartment 48 hours later.
