How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

I replaced the ice maker, wiring harness, and water valve. Total time was approximately 30 minutes, that included taking the door off the freezer and cleaning the dust off the compressor and coils while I had the back of the fridge off. One thing to mention, the ice maker did not immediately fill with water when I was done, the temperature has to come back down to the correct temperature before the water valve allows it to fill with water, a online chat with one of your techs informed me of this. Replaced the ice maker with one you sold me. I viewed the video on your web site re-installation. It went just as the video described all except one problem. Once all the screws were removed or loosened, and the wires were disconnected, the unit would come out. I went back to the video and viewed it again and it didn't describe any problem pulling the unit out. After about an hour I went back to try again and it came right out. It turns out there was ice in the water fill reservoir that didn't allow it to come out, and after an hour with the door open it melted enough to let go. Installing the new unit was easy, no problems at all. My ice bucket is full now. 

Another reviewer here had invaluable information that helped me diagnose this. Ice was frozen in the ice maker but did not dispense. Even after clearing out the ice the maker still did not work. The replacement ice maker solved the problem. Don't throw the old ice maker out. You will have to strip off/reuse some parts from it. 

Bought new one, installed new one, works great! 

First replaced Water valve, turned out not to be the problem. Seems my multi-meter needed a new battery. Then, ordered and replaced Ice Maker from AppliancePartsPros.com. Watched video and had job completed within 15 minutes. One issue is the wiring had the same connection to the ice maker however there was no plug in the wall to take any of the wires supplied so used the old wire luckily for me the problem was not in the wiring. About 12 hours later got first dump of ice. Seems to be functioning properly at this point. Inspected old one found the switch to be faulty no change in continuity in either on position or off position. 

Watched video and saw how easy this repair was, so ordered the part for under $100. New part arrived in a few days. Install is really easy--unplug fridge's power, unplug ice maker's wire harness, remove three screws with 1/4 socket, pull out old unit. Re-use wire harness, metal level arm, and cover. Install new unit following steps in reverse. EASY!!! Had entire job done in well under 30 minutes! Saved a bundle doing it on my own, and the problem is solved--we now have ice cubes only--no leaks! 

I ordered the replacement unit from Appliance Parts Pros. It isn't a complete unit, but was very easy to take the parts I needed, off of the old unit and put them on the new unit. Just take out the bottom screw, and lift up on the unit. It should come right out. You will need to unplug the wiring. The easy way would be to take off the front cover. You will see a clip that needs to be compressed to unplug wires from unit. I didn't unplug the wires from the refrigerator, but you could. Put the bail part on, with the clip. Hook up wires. Put the unit on the two screws. Put the bottom screw in. Put the cover on. That is it. Kit # UKI1000AXX 

I checked the ice maker and found the non-stick coating on the ice tray had deteriorated. Having used Appliance Parts Pro.com for other projects, I checked and found the exact replacement at a good price with instruction on how to replace the old one. To my surprise, I used standard shipping, the item arrived the next day and because I had reviewed the instructions, only took about 15 minutes to remove and reinstall the new ice maker. Problem solved, ice is now coming just as it did when my 10 year old refrigerator was new. 

I web searched and came up with AppliancePartsPros.com. I found the ice maker replacement that I was looking for. Also viewed the video on how to replace and was able to make the repair in a minimum amount of time. Our first ice cubes dropped in about 2.5 hours. Working as expected.
