How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3873614 / 280140 Dryer Drum Seal

Watched the video and everything fell into place. Great video. 

The Pulley roller was locked up and the belt was worn. While I had it apart I replaced the 4 drum rollers as well as the 2 Drum seals. Everything went well though the Drum Seals were a little difficult to put on. Needed 4 hands! NOTE - WHEN PUTTING THE SCREWS BACK IN THE TOP TO HOLD THE LINT TRAP ROLL UP A RAG AND PLACE IT IN THE OPENING! This will avoid many bad words once you drop one down the lint trap opening. 

Replaced pulley tensioner , belt . Felt and roller wheels 

Washing machine should have been an easy fix that I had done before but ran into problems with the upper bearing and the bearing diameter on the shaft (a no go situation). By the time I was able to get the bearing seated I had damaged the new bearing. Much to my surprise Cierra in customer service sent me out a new bearing kit. I was then able to get the washer up and running with the new bearing kit and motor stator replacement. The dryer was a matter of replacing all of the electrical components inside of the cabinet along with the moisture sensors in the in the lint housing. The drum rollers and felt drum seals were changed as well. Now all dry times are within minutes of what is on the timer without any reruns. Repair Videos are a Great Repair Tool very well done. We noticed that our dryer was louder than usual and not drying as well. Then over the weekend it smelled like it was burning. Turns out both felt seals had unglued and was letting heat and lint to escape outside of the drum and lint was building up around the gas burner. I cleaned out all the burnt my lint, followed the instructions video and now it is running like new again. The video tip with using clothes pins to hold felt seal in place while glue worked great. I couldn't be happier with the fix. Scariest part is that it could of been a lot worse. If anyone as these same symptoms, please stop using your dryer and take a look at the drum seals and see if excess lint is building up around the heating element! 

Purchased and installed new tub bearing and seals. Decided to replace the tub bolts as well, since I had it apart. Now if I could just find a new outer tub (which the manufacturer has discontinued). Appliance parts pros has a great "how to" video which made it simple! 

I looked for help online and the best, complete answer was provided by AppliancePartsPros.com. Even beyond that, when the repair kit arrived even a day early and the repair was underway, it became clear that both the back AND the front insulating felt should be replaced, along with the drum rollers. Again, FedEx Ground delivered a day early and the entire project is now a complete success in just 3 days total elapsed time. Thank, Appliance Parts Pros!!!!

Replaced the drum seal. 

I first thought the drum roller bearings were the problem. Two were hard to turn and lint had collected around the shafts. While I had it apart, and cleaning out the cabinet , I noticed that the front felt drum seal had a hole where it was worn through. Also, the paint on the frame was worn off. I suspect that the rollers had worn down and caused the rotating drum to contact the cabinet as cleaning the rollers had no effect on the squeaking. I checked the AppliancePartsPros.com website and ordered the drum support wheels, belt and idler pully kit along with the front drum seal. Getting the new drum belt back on the idler was the hardest part. It is difficult to get your hands back there when working from over the motor. But I was able to get it by only removing the front; popping (two hidden clips) the top and removing the two screws holding the front dryer door assembly. It arrived at the house in two days! The dryer works like new again, no more squealing.
