How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5787784 / W10613606 Compressor Start Relay

With the help of Youtube,I found a video of a repair with the same problems. Found your part store online. Matched schematics with your helpful schematic.In short I replaced the capacitor/starter. 

Tested the start relay and it only had resistance across one set of the three contacts. Common issue. Replaced the relay and the fridge is back to normal. Good thing too because this is my garage fridge for beer and frozen meat! 

They said it was either the thermistor or the compressor start device. I wasn't sure which one it was so I ordered both parts and replaced both of them. Both were extremely simple to replace, seriously about 5 minutes was all it took to replace each part, so 10 minutes total and I was finished and my refrigerator and freezer were working again. They also have videos with each part that'll help show you how to repair certain parts. 

Replaced starting device and start/ run capacitor and works fine now 

The refrigerator was warm but the freezer was cold. Turn off the refrigerator for 24 hours. Plugged the refrigerator back in, the compressor was not kicking on but the condenser fan and evaporator fan were running. Pulled start relay, measured between two bottom points found Open.. replaced start relay and capacitor and compressor stared immediately and everything worked normally. 

Even though we could not get the problem to happen during our trouble shooting process, it was determined via conversation with the customer that the compressor was not coming on. Capacitor tested within the limits of its rating. But we decided to go with with replacement of the compressor relay and capacitor. So far the problem has not occurred since. 99% sure problem was solved. I say 99% because it was never a confirmation but the replacement seems to have solved the problem. 

Replaced compressor start device and problem was fixed. However it was a bit difficult to install the spring security latch because the part received was not an exact replacement so a modification to the spring latch became necessary. 

Researched online (you tube) and watched several videos discussing the problem and possible solutions. Decided to order the switch which attaches to the compressor in the back of the refrigerator. sourced and ordered the part on a Sunday night and received the following Tuesday. Was very pleased. After watching the videos again to refresh my memory as to the proper procedure to replace the part in question, my husband and myself tackled the job in about an hour at most. I think it took longer to clean up behind the fridge and vacuum all accumulated dirt and dust than it did to do accomplish the repair. The new switch turned out to be the problem after all, so for a little or $50.00 and no labor expenses, we are very happy. Now that it is fully functional and seems to be working great again I have plans to order more parts as my fridge needs some replacement parts for the interior (ie. shelf, drawer and shelving parts). Did not want to spend the extra money on these parts if we were unsuccessful in the repair. I am very happy. 

Due to the coronavirus, my old fridge that was not getting cold, sat in my garage waiting for someone to pick it up. After 2 months I thought I might try to fix it myself. I went to this website saw a video that described exactly what was going on. Long story short, thought it was my condenser, turned out to be the relay. Saved me 1500 dollars to replace it. I highly recommend this place.
