How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007666 / WP3149400 Range Surface Element Switch

Sent problem to Appliance Pros via web site. They determined it was the surface unit switch. I ordered it ( it was delivered the next day via Fed Ex). I installed it and it appears to be working fine. The "how to do it video" was a great help. 

First, I highly recommend Appliance Parts Pros. Tech advice was excellent and the part delivered quickly. The switch was easily installed by removing the back-plate of our Whirlpool ceramic top stove (about 13 years old) to expose the electrical wiring to the burner controls. After pulling the control knob off, two screws were removed that hold the switch in place and 5 wires disconnected, then reconnected in the same order to the new switch. The shaft of the switch is designed to fit two different sized control knobs. I had to remove the small spring clip then cut off a portion of the post and re-install the clip. The instructions included explained how to do this. This allowed my smaller control know to fit flush with the back of the stove. It was simple and worked well. I am not an electrician but this was an easy fix that solved my problem. 

I Googled the problem and found I needed an infinite switch. I pulled the old part, got the number off it and ordered the new. Within 3-days I had the new part an had it in 10 minutes later. It was very easy. The part was an exact match and I saved a bunch of money. Great deal. 

Replaced the switch, the part and videos were very helpful. perfect ! 

Ordered new switch and replaced. Very simple fix. 

Had to get new switch. Initially freed contacts but switch was tabbed/pressed together so it would not stay together when reassembled. Whirlpool electric range 

Determined is was the Surface Unit Switch by switching the element with one that I knew was good. Same results, it stayed on high when the setting was low. Bought the unit from Appliance PartsPro. Ordered it friday night received wednesday morning. Removed back panel of stove, pulled know off, 2 screws held it in. Pried off 2 plastic connections. Old switch had burn marks, must have shorted out. Reversed procedure. Done in 15 minutes.
