How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008688 / WP35001191 Thermistor

I had to replace the thermistor and the thermostat. They are located under the front panel of the dryer. Once I entered service mode and cleared the error code, the dryer worked. To enter service mode, turn on the dryer and hold down the chime and temperature buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. From there, press the wrinkle prevent button and you will see a d. Hold the sensor dry level and time buttons for 3 seconds to clear the t5 error code. Turn the dryer off and then on again. Start your dryer cycle. 

I checked the thermostat and thermistor. Both were bad with no continuity, replaced both and until now with no problem. 

Changed Thermistor, Thermostats and the Thermal Fuse Assembly. I did not remove drum, so squeezing my hands in-between drum and vent hose pipe to remove screws was a tight fit, but doable. 

I had to take apart the dryer panels to access the inside bottom front of the dryer to get to the thermistor. So I googled appliance parts dealers and came across appliance parts pros. They had the cheapest price including shipping compared to all others. I ordered the part at 1pm on Monday and had it by 4pm Tuesday and was able to replace the part and have my dryer back up and working properly that night. 

I removed the top (two screws in the back) then 4 screws that hold the plastic console, 4 screws along the top edge of the door panel. 2 additional screws inside the door then the door panel can be removed. Un plug the door switch, remove door panel then in the lower right the heating element, thermal fuse thermostat, thermistor are all exposed. Test them all for continuity, and the thermal fuse was open. The thermistor also did not have continuity, and I learned later that it should normally read 10K Ohms at 70 degrees. I installed the new parts when they arrived, and Voila! The dryer heats again. 

I bought a thermistor and thermostat. The thermostat was the problem because the dryer would get so hot that it would wrinkle the clothes and when it got extremely hot the thermister would short to prevent a fire from occurring. 

Replaced thermistor 

15 yr old Maytag Neptune just stopped heating and initially, my first instinct was to spend $1k on the latest but decided to repair the unit. Ordered the parts with recommendations from AppliancePartsPros. I have all the parts needed. Took just under an hour to install the parts and the dryer runs like new. On to the next problem. 

I ordered a new thermister which came very fast.I put it in and it works great.:)
