How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016888 / WPW10199989 Control Timer

I replaced the Timer and the water fill valve. I am a good mechanic, but it would have taken much longer to replace the parts without the repair videos that I downloaded to my laptop. It would have been difficult to find the hidden screws and release tabs necessary to remove and replace the defective parts. I had the videos playing on my laptop as I was making the repairs.It was just like having an appliance serviceman standing next to me. Reviewed the video on Appliance Parts Pro website which was a good step by step process for replacing the timer. 

First checked lid switch for continuity. Then ordered a replacement timer and watched video to see how to do the repair. Video was very explicit and easy to follow. Timer was easy to put in except for lining up the tabs and pushing into place. That took the most time to do. I have washed 2 loads since making repair and seems to be working fine. Any woman should be able do this repair Received the timer on second day after ordering, super fast shipping. 

Diagnostics of the machine determined that the timer itself was bad… I keep seeing multiple reports that say the timer is never the issue but out of the 150 wash machines I have throughout my properties. The timer is almost always the issue and that’s the first place I try to start when I have a machine that won’t complete a cycle. 

The website had "problems with washers". Clicked on intermittent timing and it took me to the part to fit my washer. Easy to order and the video was a big help in changing the part. 

I WATCHED THE INSTRUCTIVE VIDEOS PROVIDED ON THE WEBSITE AND SIMPLY FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS. 

I ordered the water inlet valve and replaced it. Very easy after watching the video. 

I replaced the lid switch first to make sure it was detecting the door was shut. This switch let's the board know its ready to go. Then when that didn't help, I ordered the timer. The lid switch was like $20 but the timer was $150. A little more than I wanted to spend but it fixed the problem and I didn't need to by a new washer and I did the repairs myself by a little help from YOUTUBE. 

Thought it was motor start capacitor, so checked it and it was low and replaced it. Still loud motor hum. So checked motor start relay/connection switch on motor and cleaned the points with fine emery cloth.....still hummed. Finally decided it had to be points welded together in control timer. Replaced timer and it's working GREAT !!!!! 

I've ordered parts from appliancepartspros two other times and both times I was able to fix the issue and this time was no different. The lid switch broke, bought a new one, popped the old one out, and put the new one in. Took about 15 minutes to fix the issue. With that being said, try to fix something first before you buy a new one, this site has saved my family hundreds of dollars over the years. Good folks.
