How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007299 / WP2319792 Start Device

I have a Kitchen Aid side by side refrigerator/freezer which is 8 years old. One day it just stopped cooling. At first I was just going to junk it and purchase a new one. However, I took off the lower back cover and noticed the compressor was not running. I knew from experience that these compressors need a starter capacitor and relay and it is not uncommon for these parts to fail. I looked on the Internet for a video which showed how to remove the parts. I also found a video which showed how to test the compressor. After removing the capacitor and relay it was obvious the relay had burned out. Since the compressor checked I purchased a new capacitor and starter relay for under $60. Now the refrigerator cools better than ever. 

Just replaced this compressor start relay. Easy fix! Saved me hundreds of dollars for service or $1000 for a new fridge. Note the fridge stopped working after a severe lightning storm during which the power flashed on/off several times. 

I called in explained the problem and the CSR / Tech believed the problem to be the starter (Start-Dev) in the compressor. He explained their return policy (365 day no hassle), but I did not need it. Part took all of 10 min to install including R&R of the rear fiber access panel. Ref started right up and works fine 

Checked website to check solution. Said probably was starter switch or capacitor on compressor. Ordered both but only had to install switch. Started it up and heard compressor turn on,2 hours later freezer was at 0 degrees and fridge was at 40 degrees. Cost me $47. Saved hundreds. Thanks APP 

I called Appliancepartspros.com and explained the problem, they diagnose the problem and sned me the part. Replaced the part in few minutes and it is working fine now. Good thing we have another refrigerator. Great service ! 

Freezer and refrigerator stopped cooling. Replaced both parts in five minutes. All is back to normal. Very happy!

I replaced the start device after testing and eliminating other components as the root cause of the problem. 

Found (by listening and feeling) that compressor had quit. Checked voltage at input to compressor found ok. Compressor tried to start (Humming) measure 13 amps. (waaay too much, was not starting). Wired in an old capacitor (old capicator ohmed ok and looked fine) and motor started--unit cooled right down. Replaced with new capacitor and it quit! Wouldn't even try to start. Found after measuring voltages that Overload circuit was intermittent. I now realized I had two problems. Shorted overload circuit temporarily and once again it ran fine. Obviously Didn't want to run that way long, thankfully you guys sent parts fast. (only two days total elapsed time). I monitored voltage and current at compressor (117 v and 1.3 amps) constantly till parts came in. Total cost $46 and I saved the life of a $6200 refridge!
