How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016830 / WPW10197428 Compressor Start Device

I replaced the compressor capacitor and start device and it fix the entire problem. 

Following the step by step instructions provided. 

I followed the instructions on Appliance Parts Pros and their advice with super fast shipping (paid extra but worth it)of the parts. 

First thought it was the capacitor that was not allowing compressor to start. Replaced the capacitor. Problem persisted. Ordered replacement starter relay. Installed and appears to have resolved problem. Relatively easy to replace both parts. A bit tight to get hands in to remove and then replace parts. The starter relay part ordered WPW10197428 is not an EXACT replacement part. The starter relay plastic housing is a bit larger than the original. Requires 'adjusting' (bending) a small tab on the compressor housing down to allow fit. 

After consulting with Joshua, he recommended checking the compressor to see if it was running. Unplugged unit. Let it sit 15 minutes. Plugged back in and observed clicking at the compressor, but it didn’t run. Purchased compressor start device and capacitor. Removal and replacement was relatively easy and well documented in your video. Fixed the problem. Highly recommend Appliance Parts Pros and their team of knowledgeable customer service reps. Especially Joshua! 

Replaced compressor start device 

I ordered a new start relay and capacitor from Appliance parts pros. It arrived in two days. Remove the small panel from behind frig, pop the relay off the compressor, and plug the new one in. Panel back in place, plug back in, problem solved. Total time to repair 30 minutes, total cost $75. Probably just needed the relay $50 but I changed the capacitor anyway. 

The compressor start device immediately fixed the problem. It was slightly different from the part that was in there but all the connections were obvious as to where they should go. As soon as I plugged the power cord back in, the compressor kicked on. I looked at the inner thermometer ten minutes later, and the freezer was already starting to cool. Later that evening, the freezer was at 0 and the fridge was at 38. Perfect! 

First I called a serviceman.. who never showed up. So I went to my trusty Youtube. I found a video by AppliancePartsPros. The diagnosis was spot on. So I ordered the parts that came in 2 days. Took 5 min to fix and fridge running great. Saved me a $100 service call. I have used AppliancePartsPros website before. Thanks once again??
