How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016830 / WPW10197428 Compressor Start Device

It was a simple matter to unplug the old START-DEV and plug-in the new. The only problem I had was the wire clip that held the old START-DEV in place would not work on the new part because of a difference in the thickness of the parts. 

Purchased relay for compressor and now fridge works. 

Took off back panel, unplugged and replaced. Easy fix. 

I replaced the run capacitor and the starter relay, plugged it back in, and heard the compressor running. After a couple hours, now the refrigerator and freezer are nice and cold. 

Pulled the start relay, checked it with my ohm meter, it appeared to be good, I replaced it anyway, popped the new one in, my refrigerator is back up and running, the problem forced a thorough cleaning and encouraged me to go ahead and replace the broken door shelves and storage Ben's, it’ll make you feel like you have a fresh new refrigerator. 

After viewing videos that explained each step of the troubleshooting and repair process I tested my system and order the start relay and capacitor for the repair. The procedure was simple and exactly as seen in the video. Unfortunately my problem persists and I have scheduled for a repair person to replace the compressor. My testing revealed a faulty capacitor but the compressor is also on the fritz. 

Internet described my problem (compressor on fridge runs 5 seconds then cuts out) so I didn’t mess around and immediately ordered the capacitor and relay. They came next day and in 5 minutes the fridge was working!!!!! 

I could hear a clicking sound, the compressor starts and shuts down immediately. Replaced the start device and run capacitor Also cleaning out a lot of dust accumulating near the coils. 

After an appliance "repairman" pronounced the refrigerator dead and that parts were not available, I checked the model number at AppliancePartsPros.com and read the trouble shooting section and the reviews. The site described the problem and the parts needed for the repair. After installing the two parts the refrigerator was FIXED! One note: If you have an older unit with a control panel it may take it a few hours to come back to life. So be patient.P 

IInstalled a new start device.
