How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016830 / WPW10197428 Compressor Start Device

I researched and ordered a start relay the following day (Friday) from AppliancePartsPros.com. I was both surprised and happy to see that it arrived the next day. I installed the part; refrigerator works perfectly. I feel confident that I saved hundreds of dollars by having access to the information from AppliancePartsPros.com and getting the part needed in such a short amount of time. I have book marked these guys for any future needs. 

I did some online research, and found the most common cause of my problem to be a bad Start-Dev Relay. I then looked on AppliancePartsPro website and found the part. Called customer service who agreed that to be the most common part failure to cause my issue, checked availability and decided to take a shot at it before replacing the refrigerator. The part arrived quickly, was the exact same part as the original, an online video showed how to replace it, and within a half hour the part was replaced, no more clicking and a couple hours later back to normal operating temperature. Thank you AppliancePartsPro for being so helpful and such a valuable resource. 

After watching a YouTube video online regarding this same problem it turned out it was likely the starter relay. A search online for parts brought me to appliance parts pro. I communicated with a very nice representative who quickly placed my order which was received within 2 days! It was a simple switch out and took only a few minutes saving me ton by not having to call a repairman. 

After some looking around on YouTube. I was able to find out what the problem was... I tested my compressor for continuity and that was good... I then ordered the Start Device... installation was simple and just like that the fridge and freezer started to work again. 

With the clicking and the panel not lighting up, I opted to reduce repair time by throwing the kitchen sink at it: ordered the relay, start device, and electronic board. Parts arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered (AMAZING!). 10 minutes and it came back to life, asking for the program code (printed inside the door). Followed instructions to load the code and it's been working great since. Maybe it was just the board, but it's faster and easier for me to replace all three to make it like new. 

Ordered new icemaker. Very simple to put in. Works great. Fridge warm was initially thought to be bad evaporator fan. Found coil frozen, but further testing revealed the click, click, click cycling of compressor. Tested compressor and found to be okay, so ordered new run capacitor and start relay. Again, simple to replace parts and unit is running once again. 

Replaced the compressor start relay and capacitor. Been working like new money every since!
