Michelle R Discovery Bay , CA September 05, 2015 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FSC23R5DWJ Broken tab on ice actuator no ice dispensing A friend's ice dispenser was not working so I told them I'd see what I could find on the forum. Originally I thought the micro switch had gone out. When I received the part and went to replace it I found that the little plastic tab that engages the micro switch was actually broken off on the Ice Actuator. I returned the switch and got the correct part. It arrived in a couple of days. It took about 15 minutes to replace. Everything is working great now. The repair was pretty easy to do. I found the step by step instructions in the forum and at the bottom of the part page.If you are not sure of yourself take pictures of the whole assembly before you take it apart so you will be able to refer to it if needed. I am a 50+ yr old woman with no repair training so I would say it is a fairly east repair to do. My friends saved close to $200. The repair forum is GREAT!!! Here are the steps I followed: TURN OFF POWER remove the drip tray by just sliding it out, remove the screws at the bottom of the face plate. push up on the face plate and it will pop out - use a putty knife (wrapped in tape to avoid scratching) to loosen if needed. Unplug the face plate wiring harness to remove the face plate, remove the 2 outer screws across the top of the assembly so you can pull it out, unplug the 2nd wire harness, detach the water hose by just pulling it out of the dispenser, now you can remove the assembly, look at the position of the old actuator and ice flap, you will need to remember how they are positioned, remove the small plates that hold the actuator into play by unscrewing the screw on each side of the ice actuator, position the new part in the same spot making sure to position the ice flap properly, replace the little plates and screws, check to make sure it is engaging the micro switch when pressed, place the assembly back in the door by plugging the harness back in and putting the water line back into the dispenser. this is a little tricky because there is not much play in the line. long needle nose pliers help, replace the screws across the top, plug faceplate harness back in and slide the faceplate back into position - if needed tap the top lightly to push it down into place (I used the putty knife with tape and the handle of the screwdriver to tap it in), replace last 3 screws across bottom and slide the drip tray back into place, turn the power back on and test. Leonard B Ridgewood , NJ December 05, 2016 Appliance: Model GLHS36EJWO Ice dispenser stopped working Watched the video, ordered the part, installed the new actuator with a phillips-head screwdriver in 10 minutes. However, getting the water hose back into position took another 10 minutes using pliers, this was the most difficult part of the job. Craig S Barboursville , VA June 07, 2014 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FRS26HF6BW2 Ice actuator broke on my frigidaire side by side i had replaced the water actuator prior to this The repair requires removal of the ice/water dispenser housing. Pull the power plug on the fridge before you start. Remove the 3 screws under the drip tray, push up on the face plate and it will come loose and hang suspended from the cable. Next, remove the 3 screws holding the ice and water dispenser module in place (be careful of the printed circuit board). Once that's done, you have to remove the screws and small holding plates on the actuator pivot arms. Hint: a head light, small magnetized Philips head screw driver and a pair of long needle nose pliers will save a lot of angst. After you remove the 2 plates and screws, you can jockey the whole module forward and up just enough to remove the remaining piece of the broken actuator. You will need to note the placement of the old actuator because you will need to work the replacement into the same exact position. Your camera phone and the parts diagram from APP will also help. Carefully replace the 2 plates and screw them in. They hold the pivot arms in place. Push the module back in to position and screw it in place. The last step is to replace the face plate. Hope this is helpful. Read More... 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
Joe M Pasadena , MD March 12, 2019 Ice dispenser lever broke Replace both thee the dispenser lever and the housing as both had broken tabs. Took about 45 minutes. Pretty straight forward repair. Easy enough that you can simply look at it to see how it comes apart. Tip: to get main panel off, remove 3 screws under drip tray then the panel slides up to come off door.
