This is the mechanical cold-control thermostat for the freezer. It senses temperature and switches the cooling system on and off to maintain your selected setting, restoring steady freezer temps and normal compressor cycling.
- Regulates freezer temperature by opening/closing electrical contacts to control cooling
- Symptoms of a failing control include freezer too warm or too cold
- Unit runs constantly, won't start, or won't shut off at set point
- Temperature knob feels unresponsive or no distinct "click" when turned
What's included: One temperature control thermostat Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access the control housing; note wiring and transfer leads one at a time
- Route the sensing tube exactly as original; do not kink, pinch, or cut it
- Set to a mid setting after install and allow up to 24 hours for temps to stabilize

I checked the coils, defrost, damper, and fans, and they all seemed to work, so that only left the cold control in terms of what I was willing to try to fix. (It wasn't worth messing with the compressor as the fridge is 12 yrs old.) The fridge would sometimes kick on when I tapped the cold control knob so it was a reasonable - and, it turns out, correct - guess.
