Carol J Bartlett , IL December 18, 2021 GE dishwasher not draining. I viewed youtube videos and followed the instructions on how to determine the cause of the problem. I cleared the lines and poked my fingers in to check for obstructions. But in the end, the drain pump was the problem. The pump came in the mail the next day. The job required the pump and only one of the hose clamps as the original setup has one single ear clamp which can be removed with wire cutters and a standard one which I re-used. There is a wire adapter in the kit that is necessary to plug in the unit. It is a little unusual but the small end fits nicely into the large plug on the pump side(I think). I found it difficult to remove the original wire connector as the pressure point is on the front even though it looks like you need to press the sides. Back to the hose clamps: The instructions said to be careful not to tighten too hard as it might crack the unit. Tighten it reasonably well, maybe start the machine on the floor before reinstalling to check for leaks. Replacing the pump, electrical connectors aside, was not that difficult. It was all the other issues listed here and more that made this one of the most challenging fixes in my experience. other issues- had to fix the upper rack bracket as all those Teflon bearings fell out due to wear. There is a latch in the mid part of the wall bracket that releases the rack. If that exists on your model, do not attempt to remove the plastic tab off the front of the slide. Look for these plastic release pieces and reverse their direction, one goes up and the other down. Also, the door latch stopped functioning. I removed the latch and gently pried open the 5 catches. This exposed the spring. In my case, I was able to finesse the spring back into its correct position and quickly shut the latch assembly. Importantly, it works and the customer has clean dishes. Michael S Converse , TX August 19, 2019 Dishwasher not working would not start water held in bottom of washer I assumed that it would not start because it could not pump out the old water... made some noises, like a very rapid clicking... indicative of something trying to electrically start but not actually happening. I checked the filters... all clean. I checked the drain hose... clear. Nothing in the way at the pump. I removed and took the pump apart enough to get to the impeller and found that there was no resistance. I ordered the replacement on Wed night, upgraded to 2nd day shipping, received the new pump on Friday. Installed new pump, washer worked as it should. Disassembly, diagnosis, reassembly took a total of less than an hour, with standard hand tools. The only caution... do not discard an old pump until you get the new one... you will need the large metal counterbalance off of the old pump. Jason G New Berlin , WI February 25, 2023 Water wasn't pumping out of the dishwasher just stagnant in basin. Replaced the Drain Pump on the GE dishwasher. Easy enough, if you're here and looking. There is an adapter cable in the box that I did not see at first and thought perhaps it was the wrong pump of the electrical fitting not connecting. Once the adapter was found, it worked. Otherwise, it's literally pulling the dishwasher out, flipping it on its side, and undoing a couple of hose clamps. Install a new drain pump and reverse the taking apart. The manual says you can do it by sticking your hands underneath, but in my case removal was 2 additional screws and a little muscle. There were no error codes, my dishwasher pump was spinning, but it was acting like a clogged hose. Turns out the pump just lost its motivation to successfully push the water all the way out.
