How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6993956 / WD19X25187 Single Speed Dishwasher Drain Pump Kit

I assumed that it would not start because it could not pump out the old water... made some noises, like a very rapid clicking... indicative of something trying to electrically start but not actually happening. I checked the filters... all clean. I checked the drain hose... clear. Nothing in the way at the pump. I removed and took the pump apart enough to get to the impeller and found that there was no resistance. I ordered the replacement on Wed night, upgraded to 2nd day shipping, received the new pump on Friday. Installed new pump, washer worked as it should. Disassembly, diagnosis, reassembly took a total of less than an hour, with standard hand tools. The only caution... do not discard an old pump until you get the new one... you will need the large metal counterbalance off of the old pump. 

Replaced drain pump 

Replaced the Drain Pump on the GE dishwasher. Easy enough, if you're here and looking. There is an adapter cable in the box that I did not see at first and thought perhaps it was the wrong pump of the electrical fitting not connecting. Once the adapter was found, it worked. Otherwise, it's literally pulling the dishwasher out, flipping it on its side, and undoing a couple of hose clamps. Install a new drain pump and reverse the taking apart. The manual says you can do it by sticking your hands underneath, but in my case removal was 2 additional screws and a little muscle. There were no error codes, my dishwasher pump was spinning, but it was acting like a clogged hose. Turns out the pump just lost its motivation to successfully push the water all the way out.

Spoke to an appliance repairman who said it does not pay to fix and is too difficult I had already ordered the parts. So I called AppliancePartsPros.com. They said no problem if I wanted to return parts BUT the technician suggested that all appliances are repairable I gave it a shot I had to disconnect the dishwasher, same as if I was to replace it Followed on AppliancePartsPros.com repair parts video and replaced the pump, inlet valve, and solenoid all took about an hour and the dishwasher is working better than ever THANKS AppliancePartsPros.com 

After troubleshooting (looking for clogs, etc), we decided the drain pump needed replacing. After finding the helpful appliance parts pros video on this part, it looked like something we could do ourselves. Ordering was easy, the package arrived the next day, and the fix went relatively smoothly. Sure enough, the old pump had a piece of glass, that must have broke off a cup a while ago, jammed in the impeller. The old pump may have worked after removing the broken glass, but since we had it all torn apart we went ahead and put the new pump in (didn't want to be doing this again in the near future). Also used this opportunity to replace the pressurized water line (6 years old). We were back in business that night! Thanks. 

The part was delivered on time! The how to video was fabulous....I wouldn't even attempt starting the project without watching the video first. After we replaced the pump we ran the dishwasher (empty) through a wash cycle before putting it back under the counter and noticed that we did not tighten one of the clamps tight enough. I highly recommend doing this and looking under the dishwasher often during the cycle to double check for leaks. Overall, everything went very well and I could do it again! Since this was our first attempt on this project, we could likely do it in less time the next time around.

Noise was during drain cycle. After ordering replacement pump, removed dishwasher, replaced drain pump and found a toothpick in pump causing the problem. Reinstalled original pump and ran machine. Noise was gone but not as quiet as new. Installed new pump just to be safe because I didn’t want to do it again.
