The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. Located at the back of the dishwasher, this valve controls the flow of water into the dishwasher during wash cycles.
Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include mineral buildup accumulating inside the valve over many uses, wear and tear on the valve internals from constant opening and closing, or electronic component malfunctions.
Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:
- No water entering the dishwasher when starting cycles
- Water level issues where too much or too little water enters the tub
- A leak developing around the valve area or connection line
This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Dishwasher would run but there was no water in it R Wayne A. • Chattanooga , TN • December 28, 2015
I figured the valve that allowed water into the dishwasher was bad, or some controlling function of this process. I went online, typed in model number and had a full exploded view of the parts in my dishwasher. I ordered the inlet solenoid valve as the first step to what may be wrong. Turns out this part was the problem. With the online video it made replacement a breeze. Thank you APP for the RIGHT part AND instructions. Online purchasing and delivery are easy and timely.
