Note: Part has been revised and may no longer include the wires. The switch is the same. Use your existing wires.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 1 burner was not igniting the sparker on a low end 20 year old GE stove.   Benjamin F. • Villa Park , IL • January 09, 2022

Rather than replacing the whole ignition switch harness, I cut out the broken switch and replaced it with Burner Ignition Switch WB24K10017 / AP2632529. Wire stripper, small wire nuts, and electrical tape were also used. At first, the new switch was constantly on when the knob was in the off position. The gas valve shaft has a "U" shape. When the U is right side up, the gas is off and so should the igniter. The gas valve shaft position couldn't be changed, so instead, I re-mounted the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I accidentally let a pot boil over on the stove and it shorted one of the burner switches.   Paul B. • Solon , OH • March 21, 2014

Kenmore Top Burner Valve Switch (Spark Ignition)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPY704513

This top burner valve switch mounts to a surface burner gas valve and closes the ignition circuit when you turn the knob to Lite. Replacing a worn switch restores dependable sparking and stops intermittent or nonstop clicking at the burners.

  • Mounts on the surface burner valve and closes the ignition circuit at the Lite position
  • Signals the spark module to fire the igniters so the burner lights
  • Helps ensure quick, consistent burner ignition
  • Common symptoms: no spark at a burner, intermittent ignition, or continuous clicking with knobs in Off
What's included: 1 top burner valve switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off the gas supply before servicing
  • Pull off the burner knob and remove the control/manifold panel to access the valve switch
  • Transfer wires one at a time and align the switch correctly on the valve stem; avoid overtightening
  • Reassemble, restore power, test for spark with gas off, then relight and check for leaks

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You One burner switch was failing to fire the igniter two burners were failing to light and the burner cones had become unsightly over the years   Gregory G. • Salcha , AK • January 07, 2018

I changed out the white burners for black ones which will be easier to clean. This is a simple matter of removing two screws on each burner. The one igniter switch turned out to be okay, but was not fully seated on the valve shaft. As to lighting off issues, the new burners helped, but the most improvement came from removing the burners and cleaning the orifices that supply gas to the burner tubes with a bit of fine wire. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Gas burner would not light   Phyllis S. • Longmont , CO • November 10, 2018

Actually we called Sears repair and they did a good job diagnosing and fixing the problem (Jacob). But they never supplied the part after more than a month, so we got the number from them and ordered it ourselves from you. We had already paid for it, so had them do the work. We would have fixed it ourself but could not figure out how to lift up the entire range top and videos we found were for a totally different stove top and we had no information how to get to the part to replace it.
