The shear pin’s purpose is to stop the engine when it is broken. If the machinery hits something hard, the shear pin will break. This prevents injuries that could be fatal. If something large or small becomes clogged or jammed in the auger, the shear pin is meant to snap in half, rendering the auger useless. This happens once the auger reaches a certain point in pressure load, which also prevents damage to the rest of your equipment. The auger part of your machinery cannot turn without a shear pin. Since the purpose of the shear pin is to break on impact, it's a good idea to have several of these on hand for quick replacements. There’s nothing like having your equipment break down in the middle of a job. Repair is simple. Just remove the broken shear pin, line up the auger’s holes, and insert your new shear pin. Use the cotter pin to secure your shear pin. This genuine OEM auger shear pin works in conjunction with small engine equipment with augers made by Craftsman, Cub Cadet, MTD, Troy-Built, Yard Machines, and Yard-Man. This part is sold individually. Consider also ordering an MTD Pin-Bow Tie Cotter or retaining clip.

This is a shear pin, sometimes called a shear bolt, is used to connect various elements of the small engine lawn and garden equipment together. In a snowblower, it connects the auger to the shaft. They are designed to break to protect other parts when certain conditions are met, such as when part of the machine contacts a foreign object, such as a large chunk of ice, during operation. The design of shear pins means that they will eventually need to be replaced once they break away. However, shear pins can also suffer from corrosion and other issues. Owners should check their pins for corrosion or other issues. It is a good idea to have at least one or two extra pins on hand. The shear pin is a genuine OEM part that is used for mowers, lawn tractors, and snowblowers. This metal shear pin is sold individually. Compatible brands include Craftsman, Murray, Snapper, Simplicity, and Briggs & Stratton.
