The flywheel is a heavy metal wheel that connects to the rotating shaft. Its purpose is to help regulate how power is delivered from the motor to the rest of the tool. Its weight and inertia oppose and moderate small changes in the speed of the engine and holds onto that energy for use when needed. The most common problem with flywheels is for them to crack.
