Christine V Saluda , VA March 28, 2020 Appliance: LG Washer WM3987HW Lg washer/dryer combo unit shook upper counter balance weight loose damaging the mount lugs on the tub cover and tore the tub gasket The upper counter-balance weight mount design is a poor design to begin with. It started to rattle loose approximately 5yrs into the 8yrs that we've owned it. As it would start to loosen up (as evidenced by the loud banging noise exhibited during operation); I'd shut it down, pull the top off, remove the weight (it was almost always half rattled off at this point), wrap the mount lugs with friction tape (the plastic lugs were being worn down/chaffed by the balance weight), put the weight back on and run the screws into the expanding lugs to secure it. After about a year of these repairs I had to get bigger screws to expand the lugs fully. I had been milking it along over the last three years by this method until it finally just broke off the mount lugs and tore though the tub gasket (boot). Repair is actually not too bad as long as you have the expander pliers to remove the inner and outer door gasket clamps. It's all pretty self-explanatory for anyone with even a little mechanical aptitude. The hardest part is getting the tub springs on and off, helps to have a second set of hands to support the tub (hold the tub up) while the springs are removed/installed. Other than that it's a fairly straight forward procedure. I replaced the outer portion of the tub and the tub gasket. To be fair to LG we really like the unit and we wash a ton of clothes in this thing (household of 9), overall it's been a great - like anything it has had its share of issues, mostly R & R of a part this issue was the only nagging problem that I've had to deal with (well, the tub drain pump motors are a pain but that's another story for another time). Thanks to Appliance Parts Pros for having the parts in stock and shipping them so quickly. Without you all, I'd be buying another $2600 unit! Donald B Tehachapi , CA January 18, 2019 Appliance: Model LG WM2277HW LG washer tube bearing noise during high speed spin cycle Yes. 3 days not 3 hours. The tapping on the shaft of the spider to remove it from the bearing did not go as well as it was shown on the video and then removing the old bearings did not go as well either. The use of small seldgehammer hitting the end of the spider so that the spider could not be reused was what needed was need to remove the spider from the existing bearings, certainly not what the video showed. It might have helped also if that I would have been told much earlier that the washer in the high spin cycle sounded like a helicopter taking off instead of being told that I thought it always sounded like that. Being in the garage if you weren't there during that spin cycle you would not hear what it was doing so it seems that the spiders shaft seems like it welded itself onto the inner part of the bearing. thus making it so bloody hard to remove. While I did start the job after the 5 on a Friday evening the task was not completed till the following Sunday. There was also some reordering of parts for the wrong one was sent by mistake. Needed to use a Dremel tool at one point to remove an old bearing. So a lot more challenges than what the video showed. The directions were very correct but had to go online to figure how how to remove the old bearings without destroying the bearing housing. Four star rating means that I was glad could repair the unit and it is still operating well several months later after the repair but for ease of use of this repair it would be in the negative numbers. Dwayne D Hopewell Junction , NY September 29, 2014 Appliance: Model LG WM2075CW Washer basket was loose banging/knocking when running eventually gave a 'load out of balance code" The repair was fairly straight foward as shown in the video. However, driving the shaft from the bearings took some doing. It required replacing the use of the board with a spare bolt and a 2lb hand sledge. (having an air hammer as reserve, also not a bad idea) I rated this reair as a "1" however I've been an auto mechanic for 40 years. If you do not have good general mechanical ablities you may find this more challenging as you get it further apart. I suggest anyone making this repair should consider the bearings, seal, and spyder as "always replaced together". Galyen R Madras , OR May 12, 2017 Appliance: LG Washer WM2501HWA Lg washer leaking door boot Ordered boot, nozzle, and inner spring for boot. Would have ordered outer, but the schematic for parts made it very difficult to navigate to locate parts...24 hr/next day air and I have a happy wife. The only thing that would have made it easier, was having a pair of Spring Expansion pliers, be careful not to pinch inner boot! Used Youtube video as a walk through, completed in the fraction of the time if i hadnt watched!
