This control handle is designed specifically as a replacement for use on select walk-behind lawn mowers. The control handle is the safety that is engaged to allow the engine to run. When holding the control handle in, the pull start can be activated and the engine will run. Once the control handle is released, the engine will stop. In the event that the control handle becomes damaged or fails, it will need to be replaced so that the mower can continue to be used. This part is an idler pulley. The idler pulley applies tension to and guides the engine drive belt. A wrench set is needed to perform any repair involving the idler pulley part. The idler pulley can become worn over time with normal use. Wear to the pulley can cause the belt to slip. Signs that the idler pulley needs to be replaced include squealing noises coming from the equipment, the engine stalling, or overheating. The idler pulley is an essential component and it is important to replace this part if it becomes worn, broken, or damaged in any way. This part is a genuine MTD part and is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer and it is sold individually. This idler pulley is compatible with lawn tractors and snowblowers manufactured by MTD, Yard Machines, Bolens, Yard-Man, Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, and Husky.

This is a shoulder screw that is used to secure the handles of yard equipment. Typically, this screw is used with a matching wing nut, which is sold separately. Many different varieties of push lawn mowers have handles that fold downward for ease of storage. This is one of the locations on a mower where one will find shoulder bolts and the point at which these bolts are most likely wear out. While they are made of durable machined metal, shoulder bolts receive a great deal of wear, particularly from the handles being raised and lowered each time the mower is used. When pushing down on the mower to clear wet grass clippings or to make sharp turns with the mower, the entire weight of the mower is put on the two shoulder screws where they intersect. Since the metal of the handles can turn at that juncture, extra shearing action is put on the shoulder bolts, which can wear out. It is actually advantageous that the bolts wear out since otherwise, the handles themselves would warp and break apart. These OEM genuine replacement parts fit a number of different lawn and garden machines, including many made by Cub Cadets, Husky, Troy-Bilt, Craftsman, Yard-Man, Bolens, MTD, and Yard-Machines.

The drive belt was slipping when it was cold. Eventually the belt warmed up from the slippage and once warmed had enough friction to hold. The Craftsman manual said that special tools were required to change the belt, but that was not so. It was fairly easy. Read more
