Oven burner would not light broiler burner would light Michael C. • Austin , TX • January 25, 2015
If the oven burner would not light but the broiler would this indicated that the safety valve is OK. Problem had to be with the igniter. Removed the bottom panel in the oven and restarted the oven. The igniter would not glow at all. It should be brilliant red.
This is where the problem came in. I could not find the location of the model on the Kenmore range anywhere you would normally look - the back, the wiring envelope, the oven door jamb etc. Also the igniter cannot be removed from...

Oven came on with the temperature dial in the off position and wouldn't turn off Jason V. • Lake Worth , FL • January 13, 2016
The repair was relatively simple and quick. The only part required was a new oven thermostat assembly and the tools I used for my model was a flathead screwdriver, cross-point screwdriver, torque bit and 1/4 inch socket using a bit driver. To complete the repair, I did the following:
1. Remove all top stove burner pieces and place to the side. Remove the 3 three screws (torque bit) in each of the 4 burner locations. That will allow the top lid to separate from the main unit later.
2. Pull...

This GE Oven Safety Valve is an OEM replacement part for GE ranges. The part's primary function is to prevent gas from releasing until the igniter has received enough voltage to ignite it safely. Not allowing any gas to exit before ignition helps avoid potential safety hazards from uncombusted gas.
Causes for failure could include wear and corrosion over many years of use. Repeated heating and cooling stresses may cause cracking or breaking in the valve's delicate regulating components. Mineral deposits or dirt buildup may also obstruct proper opening and closing.
Symptoms of a faulty safety valve would include:
- gas releasing or leaking even when the igniter is not lit
- the oven or burners not lighting at all when the valve is engaged
This GE OEM part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA and select Kenmore models.
