Symptoms of a bad light switch include:
- Interior light not turning on when the door is opened
- Light staying on even when the door is closed
- Flickering or inconsistent light operation
- Difficulty pressing or releasing the switch
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Refrigerator light switch broken. W W. • Bettendorf , IA • April 20, 2020
I ordered a new switch from APP and fixed my fridge.
However, the video posted for this repair on this site is not applicable to newer refrigerator models.
I have a 2015 GE GTE18IHCRSS and had to drop the control housing (#432 in the diagram) to attach the wire/plug assembly to the switch. Only had to remove the front screw with a 1/4" nut driver and that provided enough of a gap for me to plug in the switch.
So the correct method to replace the light switch in a newer model refrigerator is as...

I determined that the cam riser had broken into two pieces. Finding the part was easy on the diagram on the website. It arrived less than 24 hours after it was ordered.
Top hinge was removed and the door was placed on a set of horses. One bolt was removed from the bottom of the door, the pieces of the broken cam riser were removed and the new one installed. Door was replaced and top hinge rebolted. The door was off for about 5 minutes.
I was very pleased with the service of Appliance Parts...

Side by side fridge had stopped cooling in both fridge and freezer and was hot to touch in center between the two Robert P. • King , NC • August 11, 2015
I googled the issue and read several articles. Most started with cleaning the coils (which mine are on the bottom) (19yr old Kenmore 363.9557812). I had not really ever cleaned them well, vacuuming did little. I had to remove the cardboard cover off the back of the frig, and blew them clean (front to back). Once that was done, I started cleaning from the back and noticed the fan wasn't turning week (condensor fan). Blew it out too, have it a good soon with a pencil, it puffed out a bunch of...

Broken fan blade Thomas H. • West Blocton , AL • April 21, 2014
I used a set of ring pliers to remove the old retaining ring, then spread the plastic ribs around the fan motor shaft with a small flat bladed screwdriver to ease removal of the old fan blade. I reversed the process to replace the blade, gently tapping a socket from my socket wrench set placed over the motor shaft and ribs with a small rubber mallet. I stopped when the shaft protruded about 1/8" beyond the plastic ribs of the new fan blade, then installed the new retaining clamp ring with the...
