The problem still persisted so I went ahead and replaced the control board. That did the trick. So for my unit, LG LFX25960ST replacing all those components were required. Simple, did some research via "Google". Typed in the model and make of the unit, typed in the problem and the search results led me to a "youtube" video of what my problem could be.
Additional searches confirmed my suspicions, I ordered the part which arrived a few day's later, installed it and now we are making ice.
The biggest part of the job was cleaning years of stuff behind the fridge. Almost found enough change to pay for the part.
