This ball bearing is located in the gear or fan case of different types of lawn equipment including edgers and trimmers. The ball bearing allows the clutch drum to rotate within the case while staying in a fixed position. With regular use, the ball bearings can wear down or seize up. Common signs the ball bearings need to be replaced are blades that won't work or a noisy gearcase. In either event, the machine will need to be taken apart and the ball bearings will require a replacement. Before beginning a replacement of the ball bearing, make sure to put on gloves and collect tools including a screwdriver, pliers, and a socket set. Emptying the fuel tank is recommended for safety. Remove locking nuts on the trimmer. Remove blade guard, washers, and tip guard. Remove screws on the gear case cover. Take apart all blades and gears. Use snap ring pliers to pull out the retaining ring and pull out the clutch drum. Internal snap ring pliers are used to remove the ball bearing drum to access the ball bearings. Remove old bearings and replace them with new ones before reassembly. This ball bearing is a genuine OEM replacement part. It can be used in various trimmers and edgers manufactured by Shindaiwa and Echo. The part is sold individually. For some repairs, two bearings may be required.
