This is a genuine replacement for the recoil starter assembly on select Echo lawn and garden equipment engines. The starter assembly is what starts the machine, and it is subject to a lot of repetitive motion with regular use. It may wear out or the plastic may become broken. In some cases, the starter rope could break and it may be easier to replace the entire assembly. This genuine OEM starter assembly is manufactured by Echo to exact standards and is sold as a single assembly. The recoil starter assembly includes the starter recoil housing, the starter rope, and the plastic pull handle used to start the unit. It does not include the hardware that is used to secure the assembly so that will require an additional purchase for those who need it. The repair will require a hex key or Allen wrench. To perform this repair, allow the engine to cool and disconnect the power. Then, remove the four screws securing the assembly to the unit and discard the old starter assembly. Install the new one, reattach the four screws, and then reconnect the power supply. Always wear gloves when performing engine repairs and parts replacements.
The metal rewind spring is an essential part of the recoil assembly on various types of lawn and garden machines. Once the starter rope has been pulled to start the motor, the spring helps to rewind the rope into the assembly. The spring can become worn over time, and it may no longer be working properly. It could also have become corroded or parts of it could have broken. When there are problems with the spring, it will no longer function correctly. It often means the starter rope will not recoil into the assembly, which will make it difficult and sometimes impossible to start the motor. The rewind spring should be replaced right away when issues are discovered. The genuine OEM replacement rewind spring is sold individually and does not come with other elements of the recoil starter assembly. It is used for edgers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and pole pruners. The spring is compatible with certain models from Echo and Shindaiwa. Owners will want to check their manuals to ensure they are getting the right part for their make and model.
